Disposal of old helmets

So I've recently replaced both my full face and my xc helmets and now have two old helmets to get rid of. Throwing them in the trash doesn't quite seem right. Is there anywhere that recycles the plastic or styrofoam from old helmets?

you can always make more money but you can never make more time.

I think it's called work for a reason. Or else they probably would have called it fun-time at the fun factory.

If you don't want to throw them in the trash you could throw them in a burn barrel.

you can smash them up so they fit in the trash, or take it to the dump/landfill

what I did was, accidentally place it near a firepit in winter, and a log fell near(which was on fire) and it melted my helmet to a liquid state. The snow soon took place and helped solidify the molten mess, and it turned into a great frisbee, or a coaster.

If they are undamaged, sell them. If they are damaged (taken a few GOOD impacts), no wrong in throwing them away.

Actually if you felt the need to replace them then they shouldn't be handed on.

If you can't find a place to dispose of them properly you should destroy them before you throw them out.

If they're still good to wear then keep them in the trunk for when someone forgets a helmet on a ride…

I was going to suggest this…

It's an excellent way to make napalm.

And then keep a glass jar of napalm handy, for when you really want to burn something.

Turn them upside down, add dirt and seeds, and presto!, a hanging basket that would impress both Martha Stewart AND Wade Simmons. Vents double as water drains.

I like the "throw them in the trunk just in case" idea. It'll save you from heading home to grab a helmet one day

That's the problem with cities, they're refuges for the weak, the fish that didn't evolve.

I don't want to google this - sounds like a thing that NSMB will be better at.

Bell used to accept old helmets and give you a discount on a new Bell helmet. I would contact them. They may recycle the materials.

The helmets are still good, but she replaced them because they smell kind of funky.
