DHF or DHR2 better grip for rear tire?

Now that the wet weather is here, I'm wondering what is better for grip on the Shore, DHF or DHR2 for a rear tire?

Thanks.

Cornering grip isn’t drastically different, but DHR2 offers noticeably more braking traction.

Compound and casing will make a bigger difference in this instance than thread pattern.

I prefer the DHR on the rear and the DHF on the front wheel.

DHR2 on the rear - no question.

The cornering is better with the DHF, but as mentioned above, braking is WAYYYYY better with the DHR2

same corning lugs as the DHF....  no reason not to run the DHR2 in the front and rear.

What's everyone's go to rear winter tire on the Shore? Is the DRH2 still the best option for grip on the wet rocks and wood features? When do you consider your tires worn out?

Yes DHR2. Aggressor, DHF, HR2 all wish they were as good as the DHR2.  Schwalbe world - Magic Mary rear - don't worry about rolling resistance. I'm sure the Assegai would be awesome aswell.

As to when they are done...that's a matter of personal preference. In my case, I wait for the knobs to start to tear 40% plus through - or be worn rounded on the center lugs. But I like a bit of "driftin" in the rear.

It's the "driftin" on the wood and rock chutes that scaring the crap out of me!

I run them till the sips are totally worn out, or the side knobs start falling off . I run fairly high pressure and can get a year on a set of tires. I ride the Woodlot , Bear and such most of the time. Not as much sharp stone to chew up tires . When compared to the shore and WBP .

My tire combo is Shorty 2.5WT 29" , DHR2 2.5WT 29" . Gonna try the Maxxgrip versions next.

I run the 2.3 dhr2  TR exo in the summer(rear)

dhr2 3C TR exo  when it gets wet (rear)

dhf 2.3 3c TR exo (front)  all year round.  I have never found a better all round tire set up.

On the tubeless ust certified wtb  rims they set up up rock solid seal, never had a tire burp ever.

Like you I run a tire until the sipes and or side knobs start to show wear. Often that corresponds with me losing traction climbing and cornering. But I have never been able to determine how thick (or thin) the outermost soft rubber is on a 3C tire. It would seem like once a tire is worn to its hockey puck rubber it’s long since done.  Anyone know how deep the soft rubber goes.?

My rear 3c 2.3 DHR 2 Exo has really round knobs and no sipes left and it’s sketchy, sketchy, sketchy.

I would guess that the soft rubber is mostly gone. And I am thinking if refurbished/ retreaded mtb-tires could be a thing in a couple of years.

The amount of waste I generated with half worn mtb-tires over my so far riding career is a shame.

After I rode home from the gym this afternoon I saw on my Bontrager SE4 the initials TWI on a little raised section between two middle knobs. Other middle knobs did not have this wear indicator bar just like a car tire. Who knew? The Minions on my other bike do not have anything like this. The Continental road tires on my road bike have small dimples in the slick centre which are “ tread” depth indicators. I wonder how many mountain bike tires have a tread wear indicator. But I’m thinking that SE4 will be shot well before I get close to the wear indicator.

I noticed Northshore Bike Shop has the DHF(2.5&2.3) and DHR2(2.4&2.3) Maxxterra EXO on sale for $65. Mostly 29er some 27.5 . I think there was some Aggressors as well.
