I had that fork BITD. If I had throw away cash I'd buy that bike just for the fork (probably heresy saying that around here when it's attached to an old Brodie…).

Coincidentally I posted a question on Retrobike earlier, but someone here might know. I've got an Underworld front hub but I don't know anything about the brand, other than they might be Canadian from back in the 90's?

Ha, that won't be for sale long. If I had the cash I'd buy myself.

I don't see the attraction of these old crappers. They're about as much fun to ride as a bag of golf clubs and they look like a otter made them out of lego.

jcl , for me it is a lot about the connection to the beginnings of our sport that really wasn't very long ago . i guess it might be an old guy thing to place value on the things from our past that brought us so much joy .

as for riding them , i look at a bike for what it is , and if it is a well maintained piece of machinery where theres' air in the tires , the wheels go round , it's got gears that shift , and brakes to slow it down , we're off to a good start .

i'm not gonna pretend these are anywhere near the bikes we have today , but you can still have some fun .

ps . this from a guy who still rides italian steel from the seventies .

and likes it

Love the old stuff myself. It takes me back to the start of mtbing which was also when I started. I wouldn't want to ride one of the old bikes anywhere except to corner store but they sure are cool to look at. It really makes me appreciate how far things have advanced!

I'm with Patrolskid on this one. I rode a 92 Slingshot in the Orecrusher last year, just for shits and giggles. Great trip down memory lane. I sure wouldn't trade down my current full-suspension disc-equipped carbon ride for an old canti-braked jackhammer for everyday riding, but I had a blast that day, even if I couldn't feel my hands at the end of it (did okay too, placed middle of my cat).

They're not bikes. They're time machines.

Just a conventional Litespeed frame with some Merckx branding. Old Merlin way more vintage and interesting. Still, don't see many of those around. By the looks of the seat collar, seems like someone laid this one down pretty fast at some point.

Now here is some truly vintage shiz, from my personal collection. Took several years to assemble, powdercoating by Cowboy, decals from Brodie, NOS shimano from Craigslist. My coffee and beer runs just got better.

I found an old white Herbold tire at my parents place on my last visit back east. I recall winning these is 92. I never ran them, seems one survived all these years in the garage.

I brought it back to N.Van with me, if anyone is seriously rebuilding a vintage Herbold bike I would part with the tire.
