crazy vintage shiz
I originally made a thread in the Lycra section forgetting about this one.
Found a Proctor-Townsend frame for $25 with full Dura Ace. Pretty cool Canadian hand made frame out of Reynolds 753, rides nicely and will make a good daily rider. Going to strip it and refinish it over the next few months.
Proctor Townsend was Edmonton based wasn't it? Nice find!
score! obviously not off the vancouver cl. dumpster bikes ("vintage", "great fixie project") go for 10x that price here.

Yes it was. I'm pretty sure Brad Proctor from PTF is the same guy that opened Off the Edge in Sechelt back in the late 90s/2000s. I recall him saying he used to build frames. I also read Kim Steed's father in law is the Townsend. Neat history.
They seem to be a real rarity from the research I've done.

Ya definitely not, picked it up on Kijiji in Vernon- actually got a Maruishi as well, both for $50. Not going to lie, I initially thought I might just clean it up and sell it for more but it's a great looking frame (that is my size) and as long as the rust isn't too bad in a couple spots then I will enjoy restoring and riding it more than an extra couple hundred in the pocket.
I'll probably toss a full complement of new components on it, likely a new fork as well as the current one feels uncomfortably soft under braking.

hot dog!
i picked up a proctor townsend a few years ago for $60 off craigslist in vancouver. it was in great shape and just my size - but i ended up passing it along to a friend because i was on one of my material possession divestment kicks :(
the guy i bought it from said he got over 50 offers for the bike, some of which were for substantially more than what he was asking. when i asked him why he was selling it to me, he said my email was the only one that included the words "please" and "thank you" in it :)

Interesting stuff. You guys ended up sending me down the rabbit hole, and I somehow found this:

Some of those builders bring back memories for sure.

^ Really nice frames. Mine ended up going for a road trip up to the Yukon (not with me on it though…).
Sounds like the front wheel was pulled off my Rocky Team Comp frame that I just bought. Knowing how parts circulate it wouldn't surprise me and there's not many Team Comp frames around either (fascinating eh!).

I have two of those. Just road one home from work tonight.
Actually I once had three. The third being a one off (mistake?) 17.5" frame that I let go to my neph's step-bro compleat w/uni-crown prestige tubed fork.
It were a lively ride.

It has a Horst Link. What could go wrong?

That should qualify as reckless endangerment of a child.
I guess it could have been worse. Might have had that seat strapped to a Fisher CR7 or and old Paramount series 90.
Came across this.
