Those colours look strangely familiar……

Bear Valley

oops…ya, Bear Valley…but not SE. Full STX groupo in a kind of black-chrome.
Impulse buy…too small really. It's about a 16.5 I'd say…for sale:)

Who remembers the carry strap with bag that mounted at the juncture of the seat tube and top tube? I remember having one that didn't have the zippered pocket.

I bet Patrolskid has a Jandd carry strap version somewhere still.

Like anything some loved it while others hated it. I think an old school Roach or Core Rat top tube pad would do the job just as well.

Don't forget when one of the saddle manufacturers put that bit of rubber like material under the nose of the seat. Back when the other carry method was hooking the nose of your saddle on your shoulder instead.

Considering I have a thumbie working with a 9 speed cassette….it could be possible.

Pretty sure the builder of those Townsends in Edmonton is Kim Steed's father in law.

Debate? Bikes are made for riding not pushing.

i bought a 59cm proctor townsend "randonneuring" bike a few years back for $60. i didn't need another bike, but figured it was too good a deal on a handbuilt frame to pass up. after a while i felt bad about hoarding it and passed the bike along to a coworker. he's constantly getting hounded by touring geeks who want to tell him how rad his bike is

I had a Proctor Townsend for a bit myself - it was a beauty indeed. I also sold it to a co-worker who needed a bike, I kinda wish I could get it back as well…
