Clothing - Made in Canada

Afternoon All

With all the politics of China, the environmental concerns of shipping product around the world, and then more recently COVID where local jobs and livelihoods are again in focus, I (like many I think) are attempting to buy local when i can.

I just thought if people had or knew of local Canadian brands who are also manufacturing their product in Canada would be great to share. I'm not going to go as far as scratch up, I get that companies will need to source the raw materials from overseas etc, but really just looking for clothing companies where the tag at minimum says "Made in Canada", so that when we spend our money we know that the labour and profit is staying here.

Two that I'm aware of today from a search is

- Ride NF - produced in Vancouver

- Trees Mountain Apparel - Quebec

Cheers

NF is pretty 🔥 digging the fit for myself with the waistband. Like that they offer merino tops too.

How skinny is the upper leg? I've got larger thighs compared to my inseam and calf

(I'm seriously caught between getting a set of NF or getting a set of cushcore right now)

- I guess it's academic though as they're completely sold out

There's another question you need to ask. Where does the fabric, velcro, zips etc come from? Just because the clothing is made in Canada doesn't mean its 'free from __'

i get that - i wasnt trying to make this overly scientific and I did call that out in my original post.

This is more about trying to keep a good portion of the profits in country.

I get in a perfect world all the raw materials and components are also sourced locally but in a world economy that's a stretch, probably never again.

I think Ride NF is what i'm looking for. Designed and sewn in Vancouver, by locals.

Let's not get too carried away :)

made in china. the nf seems a relative bargain at ~1/2 the price for locally made (yes, gore-tex pro is $$, but still). have a set of nf pantaloons on order...

What is the lead time for an order from nf right now? My legs are cold and they look like the perfect trouser

While that's true, we should still be trying to better as we can. Some of those bits (zippers, snaps, trims, etc) just aren't made domestically anymore. Most of the milled synthetic materials we love so much, same thing. If a local company is going for local production that's awesome. The situation in China isn't going to improve which means more of those other products will start being locally produced again eventually. Support those who are making the effort if you can :)

Taiga Works is still made in Vancouver, while I know that their owner has a revisionist penchant past with  history, it's still a local brand with local manufacturing.

Doesn't appear to be overly geared towards MTBing though...... but informative nonetheless

I got 2 pairs of TREES shorts last season - neither lasted the whole season. Quite low quality stuff.
