Chromag Ranger, small but strong?

60mm would be going on a heavier all mountain build to be used on local trails (north van/squamish) with, maybe, 10 days in the park. Light and nice looking but would this stem be up to task or should I be looking at something else? Other choices I've considered so far are NSB overlord and the usual Thompson.

They're great. Chromag tend not to make sub-par parts. If the stems can handle their riders pounding them on hardtails in Whistler and the surrounding area, average Joe will be fine.

I have been running a Ranger 50mm for the last 4+ years, first on my Knolly Delirium and now on my Chilcotin. To be honest I can't tell the difference between it and the Thompson it replaced in terms of stiffness, quality etc. but Chromag stuff is really nicely finished and that has held up well over the time I've had it. Plus its nice to support a local company! :)

The only Chromag parts that haven't lived up to expectations are the pedals and the faux leather saddles. The pedals' seals popped out after a dozen rides and quit spinning. The faux leather saddle's color came off completely after 3 or 4 rides.

Both were covered under warranty. Stem should be fine.

Are Chromag's machined parts made by North Shore Billet? I think their stems, qr's and the like are well designed and function as advertised.

yes on stems and rings, seat collars and drop outs. not the pedals.

I sheared my 50mm ranger stem after a couple seasons of riding.

^^Where did the stem break? Do you have any pics by chance? I'm going to take a good look at mine since its 2x older than the one you broke.

if you like the chromag, go for it. But personally I'd go for a Spank Spike. Lighter, lower stack, wider bar clamp, half the price.

nsb overlord on my chilcotin. had the crap pounded out of it and is still awesome , creak free and I have never had to think about it.

Ranger, Director, and BZA stems. The cheaper FR one is a Taiwan job

Ive got a couple of overlord stems. They are completely beautiful and bomber.
