I rode with a guy on a Cotic recently, my steel frame boner is real becoming very persuasive.

Go on......

The RocketMax and FlareMax are high on my list right now but would love some feedback from those that have seen/tried it.

Dude said he liked it. I liked the way it looked, other than that I don’t know anything really. I didn’t bother to try it out, his was a longer travel bike than I’m looking for.

If a 1994 Kona Hot makes you nostalgic, the look of it is spot on. Personally I like the idea of a FS bike that can be easily repaired/modified.

I rode with a guy on a Cotic Rocket Max....maybe same guy [from Van Isle?] recently. He was loving the bike and riding strong.

Awesome! Yes I am attracted to the lines and overall aesthetic — repairability and mod ability is nice too. Having something really unique is also a driving factor. Just always curious how they pedal.

The weight doesn’t seem really bad. In the 8.5-9.5 lb range for frame and shock. Some carbon frames are right there and the aluminium Sight comes in at 10.5 apparently!

FYI on the Cotic the rear triangle is aluminum and you'll have trouble repairing it. Like every other aluminium frame it would need heat treat after any welding.

The chainstays are AL. The seatstays are steel. It would make more sense to pay for a crash replacement if you damaged the chainstays and recycle the old ones. To be fair I'd feel the same about the steel seatstays.

Only 6061 needs heat treating , the 7000 series are weld an use. Nobody I know of is using 6061 any more.

From the Cotic website: "6066-T6 aluminium swingarm with Syntace X-12 BOOST148 x 12 rear axle for maximum wheel stiffness on larger wheels."

Never heard of 6066-t6 before . Google dosen,t have much info on the series. Assuming it shares the same traits as 6061 it will need to be heat treated back to T6 after welding.

Well at the end of the day would probably be easier to get a new rear triangle..... or not break it

By the way if you email Joe at Starling he may be selling off some demo frames with a fresh paint job. My XL Murmur frame arrives next week.
