Cheap Chains

I've been wearing my SRAM 11 speed chains to 0.75% every 4 months or so, and have been replacing chains regularly so I don't kill my $300+ cassette. Typically, I have been buying X1 chains for around $40, but the NX chain (PC 1110) is out now, and goes for $18.

What will I lose by going with the $18 chain? I am good about lubing, so not worried about corrosion. How will durability and shift performance compare?

Id imagine the biggest penalty you will pay for a cheaper chain will be in weight. The durability will like be the same, and the shift performance might not be quite as good, but may not even be noticeable.

XTR chains are ~$40 from CRC iirc. X.01/XX01 11speed cassette the largest cog is removable/replaceable with options from Wolf Tooth and OneUp so no need to settle for cheap chains.

IME XT level chains corroded. XTR not so much, and the KMC Nickel plated chains are the bees knees. YMMV.

Why slag free swag?

ummm, as your doctor i recommend against riding with a scaphoid fracture.

I can get 2 NX chains for the price of an X1 chain. I go through an X1 chain every 4 months. Do you think I'll only get 2 months or less out of an NX chain? Because, if I get more than 2 months, the $18 chain is worth it.

Or are you saying I risk damage to other components?

I presume you mean to 75% and not .75% or do you actually crush 99.25% of a chain's lifespan in a few months?

Either way, I'm with Punky and just buy xt or xtr via crc. They usually snap and disappear in the bike park before I notice they're particularly worn.

I presume you mean to 75% and not .75%

0.75% elongation, or a total chain length of 100.75% of the original chain length.
