I've always used a bashgurad ring attached to my 2x cranks. I am going to a 1x and still want a bashguard to protect my chainring teeth. What do you recommend? I'm looking at these…

Blackspire Bruiser Bash Guard.

Blackspire Crusher Beavertail Bash Guard.

I am wondering if an upper guide is a good idea as well to protect the frame from the chain possibly wedging between the frame and chainring.

And perhaps one of these, but I've never needed one

Another vote for the TrailX guide. Everything you need and nothing you don't.

You may find that you don't need any of those things. A clutch and narrow wide will eliminate dropped chains for most riders and the small size of most single ring set ups provides enough clearance for most folks. I rarely grind my 30 tooth on anything at Whistler (not in the park) or on the Shore. But you may have different issues. Maybe ride a bit before deciding.

Debate? Bikes are made for riding not pushing.

I've been running the Crusher for a while. I hit it very irregularly (covering a 32t) but I'll gladly pay the little weight penalty as I like the piece of mind.

Oneup claims their guide will reduce chainring wear on 1x setups, anyone used one long enough to say if it's true or not?
I haven't dropped a chain since I got a bike last year with SRAM 1x11, but I may get a taco bash just for peace of mind (NW chainrings aren't cheap and either are 11spd chains). My local trails have some logs and rocks I used to hit my old bike's bashguard on…

Another nod to the blackspire trailx guide. Easy to set up, minimalist, and does what it's supposed to do. Also, as said above, it always feels good to support a local company.

I don't think they are claiming reduced wear but added protection for when the ring looses retention then the upper guide its there as a back up.

I have the Bruiser set up 1x. Hit it semi often and I've also had rock strikes on it. Does its job and is cheap and light. I've found no need for a chainguide yet…

Have the bruiser, it's saved my ring lots of times unscathed. Would probably go trail x if choosing over, just for the added retention up top.

I hear that OneUp will have something with a bash guard early next month. Look for the Rocky [HTML_REMOVED] Yeti team bike checks at the EWS this weekend.
