If I stop to change my saddle height the next person riding by asks me if I need help. The peeps riding on the North Shore are for the most part carry tools and are generous with help. I have had a flat in the past with no spare tube and dried out glue from my patch kit. I was given a DH tube by a stranger. What a wonderful experience to have some one go out of there way to keep you riding.
So I am glad to help a rider that needs a fix. Unless Im at Whistler. Then i just pass them and laugh.

common sense…..Whats common about sense?!

I love riding without a backpack. Going to get one of these next summer for a nicer way to strap my tube to my frame.

I hate riding with a pack too… that is until I bought one of these: http://www.usweshop.com/prod/F3-PRO-20L-BR_1054495/BIKE_84794/ENG/USD Its strange how something like a pack can make you look forward to riding.

Similar looking straps to Shimano packs. Looks very good.

Debate? Bikes are made for riding not pushing.

When I ride locally, I usually take nothing with me but my phone - and I don't ask or expect help if I get a flat or mechanical, accepting the long walk home as a possible consequence (which I've had to do occasionally.)

That being said, when I am riding with a pack, I'll always offer help to someone if they're at the side of the trail with an obvious problem. To not even bother asking is a jerk move and runs counter to the spirit of our sport.

Is carrying a pack that annoying? I pretty much always ride with a pretty loaded dakine nomad, doesn't bother me.
Kind of like umbrellas and condoms, when you have one you don't need one when you need one you don't have one
