Unless it’s in the wheels, are most people going to notice a .5 to 1kg weight difference on their bike? Plus is it really worth the $$$$ to save enough weight to the point where it’s actually noticeable and not just I spent a bunch of money to save a quarter pound and now my bike feels moar better?
I’d much rather min-max or Andrewize my bike.

Hey, It's 'free' performance. Free-er than having to go to a gym and lose that same 1/4Lb.
Cranks are a pretty fucking stupid area to attempt saving weight in.

I think there's a line. And not every rider requires Profile 3 pc BMX cranks. Why not optimise your parts based on your own requirements? It's not like he's asking if anyone runs Tune cranks for hucking duties.

The cranks I posted came with a bb, so add another $30 or so for the 100g lighter xt option which are already $20-30 more. Is saving 100g for an extra $60 worth it in the case of cranks?
Looking at the price of carbon cranks that save maybe 250-300g but cost $300 plus more has me thinking not worth it

:shrugs: Not for me. My cranks were $50 off the PB buynsell for a frame that set me back $3000 used. But if i had the cash to lay out, sure it'd be worth it. It was "worth" about $1 a gram back in the weight weenie dh bike days.

yeah, I've noticed it seems to still be about the same.
I'm sure there's a sweet spot tho between price/performance/weight/durability where you can get about 90% of the high end performance for maybe 50% of the price.

Who has cracked a turbine LP? (not me either - no lack of trying)
The SixC is 400 bones on Chainreaction right now - I was tempted....but then I thought about the last 3 carbon cranks I had catastrophic failure with and I didn't click "check out". Admittedly, my experience with carbon cranks was back in the day of square taper BB's but I also had tons of alloy cranks before and after those carbon cranks and never broke any of those. As for XT vs the slightly more expensive Turbine, I can't speak more highly about the Cinch system. Chainring and crank spiders are a thing of the past in my mind. You can nail a cinch chainring on a log and feel confident that your cranks will be fine and your ring will probably be straight (they are tough!). Crank spiders are the weak spot of a crank, so glad I got rid of them.

If we’re talking about “back in the day,” in the early 2000s, I definitely bent alloy crank arms and stripped pedals out of a couple sets of alloy cranks after clipping really rocks. But things have come a long way and you rarely hear of such issues now.

If you count first gen Next cranks? Not really carbon, more alloy with bits of carbon in them. Whereas a bunch of cranks these days are carbon with a bit of aluminium in them.
I've bent alloy cranks as recently as 2008.

First gen Next were definitely not carbon. As you said, alloy cranks with carbon 'inserts' to make them look cool.
My stock Sram cranks are tough and weight 625. I am not looking to add weight. RF Turbine are light and strong at 522
