A guy bought a bike from me in the excited states, on-line tracking shows its held up at customs in Fedex in Delta, from a CBC news story on the weekend all customs is entirely Fubared due to the tarrif thing

The bike was bought on pink bike, it was paid for via paypal / shipped fedex and insured all the due diligence yadas PB suggests

So buddies money is sitting in paypal I didnt get my $$$$ right away cuz i was a new PP user PP sez i get my money on the 21st

but Buddy can't get what is now HIS bike and who knows what tarrifs will be on a used Eeb BUT it would strike me that essentially buddy has imported a used Eeb to the US of A ? I said on the claim form when i shipped  it was made in USA cuz its a Santa Cruz but there was a made in China sticker on it somewhere

so Anyway Headsup I would suggest shipping anything at all to the excited states is not a good idea, then i thot mail right ? but Can post is on strike SO maybe shipping/ mailing anything is not a great idea ?

I've bought and sold a lot of frames internationally. I am avoiding it as of this year for obvious reasons, but even prior, it was not unusual for a frame to sit in customs for a few days.

Customs fees are are not the seller's problem, so don't sweat that.

I did buy a new hydration pack, one of the new vests from San util. Kinda broke my own code but I like the concept and they seem like good dudes that are passionate about what they do. It cleared customs pretty much instantly, and it is new goods manufactured in the US. That is the opposite direction though, I'm not up to speed on what stuff we have retaliatory tariffs on.

But yeah, if the point is not obvious to you, hopefully it is now - just don't buy or sell via US if at all possible. That said, it'll probably clear in a few days. US ebike broski may or may not pay duties or taxes, but not your problem.

Buy local, sell for cash in hand

I’m surprised you could get a used lithium battery past the fedex pick up point.

Yup. My favourite pair of winter shimano shoes died recently, the soles literally came off both shoes. I went looking for a particular pair of MW7s to replace them. Not the current ones that are kind of XC-commuter-styled, but the year previous which have a better sole. I actually found some on Ebay, brand new at a shop in New Jersey for $171USD, which is fair. Until I got the currency conversion plus $36USD in shipping and $29USD in duties. These shoes will now cost nearly $400CAD, which still isn't terrible considering what the newest ones cost here but it feels like a lot more than the starting price. And for all this the shipping will take anywhere from 7 to 14+ business days.

Previously I would have saved a bunch of that by picking them up in Point Roberts but I guess we're not doing that anymore because I'm not keen on an unscheduled trip to El Salvador (who would feed my cat?).

This is what it was like buying stuff from the states in the 90s, the only difference is that now they hit you with all those extra costs up front. This time it was worth it because this is a specialty item that will last a really really long time so it was worth going the distance to get exactly the right thing (my last ones lasted nearly 10 years). But it also means that casual ordering of stuff from Jenson is now officially over. Long live shopping at your local shop!

I almost never buy anything from the excited states, I remember someone on NSMB telling us he ended up paying 350$ for a T-shirt, back in the day I bought 661 axo dualies which were 159 can$ but the factory sale had really big and really small sizes for only 39.95 USD, by the time i got them on my feet it was 112 $ which was still a nice saving but wow the wanking bout almost trippled the price !

SO I sat on hold with FEDEX and then I got transfered, listened to a bunch of elevator music actulay talked to a guy in newyawk who gave me an international shipment release so it goes out tomorrow !

the manifest sez it is a used mtn bike made in the USA

Bought a Sugino BB from alex's cycle in Japan.

Not much love for Sugino over here and good luck finding a 113mm cup/cone spindle anymore. Maybe.

Except Modern Cycle in Des Moines where I bought the cranks had the steel version of above for half the price. Tariffs?

Coulda' bought direct from Sugino but they wanted to know my sex.

Nice though that a small family run enterprize still exists in a world with Shimano/Sram et al.

White industries still sell a square taper BB in that size and others. You can even get them in Ti for extra bling. Id assume no tariffs as they are made in the US of A.

Lol...Ti!

I could get the steel version from Phil Wood for about $4hun~ Cdn, but for a early '90's Fusion?

I love my wife but wherever that Sugino is made I'm sure its duty cycle will outlast the miles she's likely to accrue b4 the grave.

Wow, I went on their website and a message popped up that said "someone in Vancouver bought a Sugino BB".

I  dropped the bike box off at the pickup which was just a local shop where buddy sells cleaning supplies so I answered his questions he never asked about lithium batteries and I never thot about it, I did some googling and apparently one should not ship lithium batteries , too late its in Oregon already
