i know that factually, they are much stronger than aluminum. but it sure looks nasty when broken. my mate had his snap at the brake lever clamp. he had already completed his run and it was after a drop, not during. i'd post the pictures if i could figure out how to do so.
i put them at the link below if it works…

Did your mate use a torque wrench when he mounted the brake levers and shifter? I have heard that improper tightening can lead to such a break.

I picked up a shimano torque wrench a couple of years ago motivated by my fear of over torquing clamps.

yeah that's rather definitively broken right at the clamp eh? i've emailed him asking about that. he bought it from a LBS staff and mechanic at a great shop who know what they are doing. it would surprise me if it was over tightened and buddy is meticulous as well. all i know for sure is the bike was ridden hard but the 2 owners of the 2015 bike weigh 180 at the most each. head scratcher to me. i have easton havoc on the one bike and i do question it at this point.

I am happy riding carbon bars, but do lean towards the DH (Havoc) models even on my trail bike rather than looking to save the extra few grams and going as light as possible.

Sixc bar is supposed to be as strong as any. DH bar. so after the drop he came to a stop and the bar broke and he toppled over from a standstill.

That's clearly an overtightened clamp. There is little stress at that point in the bar. It's really far from the fulcrum at the stem.

Aside from a manufacturer defect, you have to look for burs on the clamps too. I had some brakes that needed to be filed and sanded to be smooth to clamp to a carbon bar.

I am sure RaceFace will be great to deal with on this. I have had zero issues with about 8 or 9 of their carbon bars.

I don't understand why some people over tighten brake and shifter clamps so much. It just has to be snug. Its not like a stem, it doesn't need a lot of force to not move. And of course being able to move in a crash is good.

Sorry, I read that totally wrong. I thought you meant that you had zero issues dealing with RF on 8 or 9 carbon bars. Freaked out a bit. I'm running BZA bars on both of my bikes and I'm a big guy. This shit worries me but so far no issues.

Truth. I read on MTBR about people having issues with dropper posts that don't return up until they loosen the post clamp. Some people ought not work on their own bikes or others.

Debate? Bikes are made for riding not pushing.
