Anybody picking up new gear? There are some pretty good deals out there, just noticed that Jenson has Chromag Wideangles with a Sram Eagle GX build on for $2600 USD

We don't know what our limits are, so to start something with the idea of being limited actually ends up limiting us.

Thats not a bad deal. They wont ship anything Chromag up to Canada however.  Another trip to Point Roberts would work though.

I hear you. I have given up on Canada post for orders from CRC, evans, and other UK sellers. I get dinged with customs every time anyways and it takes forever so now I use the prepaid customs and duties method.

I ordered Tuesday, had it in my hands Thursday. 30 bucks shipping and all taxes included for about 200 bucks worth of stuff.

John Crandall, who owns Old Town Bike Shop in Colorado Springs, is one who’s under attack. He offers fair prices, provides good jobs, pays rent and taxes, and lives in and supports the community.

But he’s noticed that more and more shoppers come in to try out bikes and get advice, yet not buy anything. Instead, their smartphones scan the barcode of the bike they want, then they go online to purchase it from Amazon — cheaper than Crandall’s wholesale price.

It's unfortunate but unstoppable. People will always want to save money. I've heard of a few shops now telling their suppliers to beat it and they just stock their showroom floor with bikes bought on Amazon. Why not right? Upcharge a bit for assembly and there you go. Evolving times means evolving business models imo.

Yup, its the evolution of the big box store. Mom and pops struggled when they moved in. They complained and said "support a local business". Turns out that for many things a store front, any store front, isn't even necessary.

But I do feel that its very offside to go to a store, try stuff on for sizing and order online. People should not do that.
