O.k.
Been looking for a new Garmin (garmin 230, or Edge 520).
Can't find one anywhere for some crazy U.S. turkey madness.
Tried the usual culprits (jenson, chainreaction, amazon).
Any advice?

I recall seeing some where that Garmin sold rebuilt units.
What are your make or break features? I have gone minimalistic with a Lezyne Mini. It generates all the important data. The main restriction is no fancy stuff (maps and graphs) until I get back to my computer. But for me, I prefer the tiny 1.25" x 2" size. Two slightly larger versions (Power and Super models) add more metrics and operate (wireless) with your smartphone. They all pick up satelites quickly, have prooved very acurate and have good battery life (from 10 to 22 hours operation, and 100 to 400 hours of data storage).
Its definitely a different approach than the bigger Garmins, but at $130.00, maybe worth a look. Solid, well thought out units.
fall any fall line
Shops only make about $40 on a Garmin unit so I wouldn't expect much of a deal. A better bet is a shop that has older inventory and paid for the Garmin before the dollar tanked. I got lucky and saved $50 that way.

Thanks! I'll likely look at throwing Xmas loot at either the Power or Super model. I was going to pick up the Giant computer a while back but my LBS advised against it. Didn't want to shell out for another Garmin or mount my iPhone on the bar either.

ummm, as your doctor i recommend against riding with a scaphoid fracture.
The Forerunner 310XT with a bike mount makes a pretty good bike computer. $120 on Amazon.com right now.
I'd like to get the 520 too, but no real deals on it. Best price is almost $400.
Refurbished 800 goes for about $380, which would be OK, but I want GLONASS.
I'm going to search for a refurbished 510.

Westernbikeworks generally has some decent deals on Garmin. You need to set up an account to see the sale prices I think.
Right now:
520 = $255 USD
810 = $320 USD
