I happened to walk into Cove Bikes for the first time in many years at the weekend...
Oh dear, how sad that places is now with a pretty poor selection of bikes on the floor...
Is that just a sign of the times or has Cove really gone downhill 😳

I stopped in 5 to 6 yrs back. Was dumbfounded, nothing like they once where. Chaz was still there , was nice to chat with him again.

Everything went up 10-20% this year : bikes, gas, many things at the grocery, houses, trail network season passes... can't wait to see my salary go up by that much at the end of the year! (not going to happen!)

What's the deal with Cove these days? When I first moved here 10 years ago it seemed to be one of the major shops/brands around here but I almost forget they existed...

I'm going to guess that the generation of riders that propelled Cove through the 90s/early 2000s are now grown up with kids etc. Kind of weird for a 40 year old man to come home with a bike with a porno name and a skull on the headtube. Point being, the 'scene' evolved.

I guess Cove is just hanging on waiting for the mid-life crisis/divorce phase to hit their target segment so putting a sweet new Handjob hardtail on a fancy new lifted Jeep Wrangler's rack will all make sense again. ;-)
Wouldn't hurt them to finally make that leap onto the new fangled interwebs and hire someone to make a webpage.
They've had 2 versions of a terrible static page over the past 20 years.
I still buy stuff there what little is left, they usually have the tire I need or some gloves or whatnot. Plus they've been good to me over the years. Used to be I went by every opportunity I had to talk story with my man Jordan.

In other news wished I would've stocked up on a spare derailleur, they are no longer available on planet earth.
So regarding Cove Bikes as a brand, they had a parting ways, a good number of years ago, with the guy who designed all their glorious linkage-driven suspension frames (a good friend of mine). He wasn't an engineer, or even a professional designer, just an old-school shop member with a big brain, good eye for design, and a difficult social demeanor. They had really good designs that were honed to the local terrain, and were made really well at the Van-local YESS BMX, so they had a tonne going for them.
Anyway, at that point they didn't want to pay him for his design work anymore (or at all), and when he left, the only new bikes they launched were re-branded, horst link, catalog frames from Asia. Needless to say, very few people bought into that. Since then, the Ti hard tail appears to be the only thing branded Cove that they sell these days, because it's a re-branded Lynskey. Said designer went back to school to be a machinist, and now runs a machine shop that's picking up some good momentum (good move buddy).
Cove brand aside, the shop floor has gone through various states of good/poor selection of other brands, but it's really seen a big decline over the last few years. Personally, I think the clout of their Cove-brand bikes really kept them relevant, and they didn't see that at all when they made that drastic shift almost a decade ago. It's really too bad, because I think Chaz owns that building, and that's one of the big things that could allow them to keep thriving on the Shore, combined with all their mtb heritage in the area.
