My trails don't have a ton of hiker traffic, but in the interest of being a good trail user I'm looking for a new bell. I have a small bell on my handlebars but it doesn't seem to be doing the job. I stopped and asked a biker I met if he could hear me coming and he said barely. Any recommendations for a bike bell? I was thinking the kind that dangle and ring as I ride but I'm open to the others as well.
Bike Bell Recommendations
I use a bear bell off my saddle pack. Not for bears but for humans. That and a DT Swiss hub with minimal grease, my own grunting will warn other users that they are not alone. I also go slow unless I have line of sight on multi use trails.
Thanks. I have a pretty small bear bell now so maybe it's just a matter of getting a bigger one and grunting a bit more lol.
Something like this: http://www.mtbbell.com/about.html ?
You can stop it ringing too: http://reviews.mtbr.com/timber-mountain-bike-bell-the-polite-way-to-pass
Use loud hub hand free bell.
Thanks for the recommendation. I'll have to check out the Timber bells. I've seen a lot of the hand activated bells but the Timber style was more what I was looking for. I like that it's constantly ringing as I ride. I have i9 hubs so they're pretty loud, but I guess not loud enough.
I just tend to swear a lot...and loudly, when i ride.
Seems to do the trick.

Don't grunt too loud or you might accidentally become a bear attractant
