It's all personal preference. If you ride in muddy conditions, Michelin hooks up really well.

For race tires, I'd recommend Maxxis. They roll really quickly.

From personal experience, WTB velociraptor is a shitty tire with weak sidewalls and even weaker cornering. Nokian Gazz is very durable, but doesn't hook up or corner well. Good rear tire to have for urban and abusive style riding.

IMO, I prefer nimble tires. 2.3 arrow primewide front, 2.2 Michelin in the back. Good enough bite for Whistler and fast enough to pedal for all conditions.

ive run…

2.7" maxxis mobster (Front) before. it was alright. kinda expensive for what i got though.

2.6" kenda dh (rear) horrible. avoid. grips like jello. corners like ass.

2.5" arrow prime bite (front). great! had it since oct. still runnning strong.

2.5" arrow wide bite. (rear) AWESOME GRIP. great cornering. kinda heavy but totally reasonable. i wore through it right down to the sitching and it still had better grip than the kenda.

2.1" WTB Velociraptor. Just don't get it. Just don't

2.4" WTB whatever…it was okay for XC. never for DH

Continetnal//Panaracer/Hutchison dont even bother.

Michelin 2.5 is what i'm getting when i get a 26" rear :)

I've run Michelin Comp 16's, Comp 24's, Maxxis High Rollers, Maxxis Mobsters, etc.

I find the Maxxis great for "all weather", the Michelin's are the best for wet weather, but they sure move around on dry hardpack (Whistler). You have to run a lot of air pressure before they feel stable.

For dry hardpack (Whistler), I like the Intense "race only" 909's the best. They don't roll over in the corners and they are soft enough to grab shale, roots and rocks. They are awesome tires.

well i have it on the rear and compared to my arrow it feels like i have a flat tire on the shore. it corners like ass and doesnt grip to anything at all. it just slid all over the place. :(

Most tires that are really grippy have lots of tread, hence they wear faster. Check into Michelin 2.2s or Maxxis tires. They have a variety of patterns, durometers and sizes.
