Need to weigh some parts so I'm looking for a decent gram scale. Nothing uber expensive … figure under $100 Cdn.

This one appears to be popular:

What do all you NSMB weight weenies use?

The one you have pictured is quite popular because it is cheap (CAN$46.00) and you can get it at any Staples office supply store.

It seems accurate, and gives repeatable measurements.

For small parts under 5 lbs it is hard to beat it for the price.

The one from Staples or Can Tire - do they turn on in the metric setting or the imperial? My current scale sucks and I want to replace it. It starts out in imperial and it rounds to 5 grams, which is purely unacceptable when arguing about the weights of different housing ends…

To be honest, you'd be looking into spending a lot of money for a scale that's as accurate as you require it to be. Let's face it: Scales are a nice toy but neither the Staples scale nor the Ultimate digital scale nor any other scale that's not of an extremely high quality (and thus VERY expensive) won't be perfectly accurate. There's always going to be a margin of error of a couple %.

[EDIT]
The Staples one does Metric and Imperial. Default is Imperial.

That's not the question. Does it default in the metric mode or the imperial mode?

The Staples one defaults in imperial. A quick push on the GR button and you're on your way to metric weight wennie heaven.

I need to save myself that one click though. Still searching for a scale that defaults to metric and goes to .5 grams of accuracy.

the Pelouze one from Staples defaults to the imperial scale, I agree it's a pain. It times out too quick too. When I'm in a weight weenie session, say weighing out 25 or so shifter cable ends to find the lightest, it gets tedious when it shuts down while I'm recording the weight on my spreadsheet. And this one time while weighing chainlube to figure out the difference between 1/2 drop per roller and a full drop…..

Another feature that may be useful is an elevated plate like the one posted by bikerxcore (added photo below). Mind is similar to the one the OP linked, and it's difficult to see the display sometimes - e.g. when I have large items that I need to put in a box in order to balance on the scale.

My kid bro got me a scale for Xmas that weighs 0-3000g at 0.1g. 15 quid + express shipping, so around $40cad shipped.
No idea what it is called, i think it was an ebay job - only downside is the small platform (2.5"*3")that will make weighing forks (about the only things approaching 3kg) tricky to say the least…
But it does weigh those small items like titanium disc rotor bolts Vs steel…

Dave, RTFM

If you press the ON button and then press the OZ/G button during start-up the scale will be in the non time-out mode and will not shut down until you press the OFF button.

PS- a quarter drop of lube is all you need. Saves 8 grams per 10 links.
