Best compromise bike for AM + WBP (A-line) 2015

OK have read some past threads along this line, but I'm feeling they are a little dated now that technology has advanced somewhat. I know there is no "perfect do-it-all-bike" for, say the North Shore, Squamish, Whister Trail and the bike park (I do about 25-30 days at WBP each summer).

I have been riding a FR bike at the Bike Park (Giant Faith) for 3 years, and do a lot of A-Line and DM, and I am technically proficient enough to clean Goat's gully and give In Deep and Fatcrobat full lovin' on a 180mm travel bike, but at the same time I'm not into Crabapple or airing out big drops (say [HTML_REMOVED] 6 feet) at high speed.

Any suggestions for what, if anything comes close? I am currently thinking of building it up from a frame (frame cost under $2200) if possible. I'd prefer to keep costs down, so Aluminum 26-er works best. Doable, or no? Or would the inevitable result just be a bike that sucked at everything?

If you're doing 25-30 days at wbp, you can justify 2 bikes. Big bike for the bike park and am bike for everything else.

Very confident descender and good in the rough stuff. Climbs decently as well.

Knolly Chilcotin's can be had for a very good deal right now, it's a pretty capable bike and would survive pedalling as well as the park without any issues. My XL was about 31lbs, although that was with air shock/fork and some carbon bits (no compromises though).

Being cheap is OK. Being a clueless sanctimonious condescending douchebag is just Vlad's MO.

Pretty hard to argue with the value on those Giant Reigns.

This, I rode one down joyride-lower Canadian when demoing at crankworx, took it like a champ. I also put like 15 days on my '13 Kona process last year. Went OK, wheels needed a lot of truing but whatever. Funner on jump trails and 75% as good on tech than my DH bike.

Agreed. For your purposes, the Reign gets my vote. And value is impessive.

We have 14 bikes in our family of 4. Would like to do with as few extra bikes as possible. I can do without the AM/Enduro bike, but I promised my SO I would spend more time riding AM with her and less time on the road bike. The things I do to stay married.

Will check out the Chicoltin, Process and Reign, Think the V10 is out of my budget. I missed a smokin' deal on 2014 Chicloltin frames from Different Bikes a couple of months ago. Am kicking myself.

I'm leaning towards a Banshee Rune.

Hey Duncan, I think you would be pretty happy with the Chilcotin. I have one and use it for just about everything. It is an ideal bike for the North Shore and works pretty well in the bike park too. Rides like a mini DH bike, as in point it down and hang on. Nicely balanced in the air as well. It's not the most efficient climber but I ride mine in Squamish all the time and I am usually close to the front of the pack. Good call to be looking for a bike that is not carbon or 650 b. Lots of deals to be had. Try to get the ccdb shock if you can. Much better than fox. I have no experience with the process but we did have a reign x a couple of years ago. The Chilcotin blows it away both up and down the hills.
