Best brakes on the market...

I have been toying with the idea of getting rid of my Hayes Purples and opt for something with slightly better modulation and a better overall lever feel.

I was thinking about the Avid Juicy 7's, but I want to hear real-world experience on them before jumping on the wagon.

What about Hope's, Grimeca's, and whatnot.

My hayes have been great, but I want a bit more modulation.

I rode a set of Hopes (I guess they were M4's) and they felt really nice, but I didn't ride them on a trail (on my buddy's Echo trials bike).

They were noisy though, and I didn't get a good feel for the overall power and modulation of them.

So what would you recomend and why? Maintainence isn't a huge issue, as long as I can go at least a few months before a bleed.

I just wanna know what's out there, my brakes are good for now.

Oh yea - What is the number on the Hope's? The ones on my buddies trials bike were #5's I believe, and they were the first set that I ever tried out.

I want my brakes to be quiet.

I think that's about it.

Tell me everything you know.

Purple Hayes. They work, and they are durable as any brake available.

hopes, better in every respect than hayes except in some portions of the planet some people dont know how to work on them.

I think i am gonna get a set of the new six pot ones that are coming out soon, 6 pistons, each titainium, monocoque capiler, 8 inch rotors, and great levers.

Absolute

Hopes may or may not work better than Hayes. What I do know, is that Hopes make way more nosie then most brakes on the market…

You can always hear Hope equipped bikes coming…It's actually quite funny…

After using Hayes mags, HFX9's, Hayes mechs, Avid mechs, hope m4's and various other brakes for a while.

I like my Shimano XT's the best! the best feeling and most low maintenance brake ive used. Every set of hayes ive used broke. The MC blew on my hayes a few times, so did the lower seal, one of my hayes came out of the box stripped (MC), and one of them just stoped working one day, i havn't taken it apart and looked at it yet. My friend HFX 9 blew up as we were walking up a hill on seymour, somthing was faulty in that one.

When hayes are working good, they are nice brakes dont get me wrong. But in every was i prefer my xt's. You wont start liking the xt's until you are 100% used to them they feel very different compared to other brakes. Since ive owned them ive done nothing to them, and they work like new. Ive only had a few runs on Hope m4's and they where also nice, But for the money id still take my xt's, easier to find parts for as well. My rear XT makes a little bit of noise, but I think its because im due for new pads. BTW- I bought my XT's of my friend with 8 inch rotors + adaptors for $250cnd.. not bad?

One word…. Shimano. My XT's are 10x that of Hayes.

Wait till people start running the Saint Disc's…… ask the boys from Rocky how they blow everything out of the water.

I'm with Smoe and Jerry Rig, I have hayes on one of my bikes and an 8" xt on the front of the other, there is no comparison between the two. the xt has a way better feel, deeper modulation, and a bit more power when one fingering ;) . shimano is phasing out the four piston xts so scoop up a pair if you can.

hand built d-track on moca 20mm hub $130. pm me

I could probally get a back-stock pair new from Shimano. I have never been a fan of the XT's since they jacked Grimeca's design.

I'll think about the SAINT's if they have a regular lever and a rotor adapter for IS 6-bolt hubs.

I will never get a pair of XTs after having a grimeca vive had nothign but problems with it. I just run hayes and love them. I have both a hfx 9 and a hayes mag love them both thats what id recomend ive had a hayes mag for like 2 years and never any mantinence or anyhitng no problems. My HFx in only like 4 months old and still great. My grimeca i really disliked b/c it faded on dwonhills and pumped up. The rotor got bend easily never hapedn with hayes. THe grimeca also pumped up alot. HAYES!

I'll keep my Hayes I guess.

Then see how the Avid's and the Saint's work out, and make a decision then.

I'll ride my buddy's specialist with Hopes sometime at the trails and see what I think.

don't confuse Grimeca with the XT's…. just try the XT's, you'll never look back.
