I run Arch EXs as well, and yes, the HR2 on a wide rim would be brutal.
Best all rounder front tyre
I was on regular Archs
Why slag free swag?
ummm, as your doctor i recommend against riding with a scaphoid fracture.
I've had my eye on the Mavic tires. They look and sounds pretty good. Do you think the Charge 2.4 would square up too much on a mega wide rim? I do find that with my magic mary. That tire doesn't track very well and is pretty much square in profile. I'm running Chinese carbon 35mm.
Which rear tire? Quest or Roam?
my new favorite is the mavic charge 2.4. they're made for mavic by michelin and they've really nailed it. i've been riding one, along with the roam XL in the rear, for about a month. sidewall is burly, close to 2-ply, but more supple, similar to specialized SX casing, and only 900g for the 26" version. it rolls faster than HR2, minion, HD, but has some kind of magic rubber that gives it impressive traction in wet terrain, and it has hardly worn at all. reminds me a bit of continental's black chili rubber, but a bit stickier. the tread is magic - the transition gap is a bit tighter than HR2 so its a bit more forgiving on the transition to the side knobs for aggressive cornering. braking traction is outstanding, and it remains very predictable even on wet rock and roots. it is most similar to the butcher SX but faster rolling and better wearing. highly recommended, if you can find one.
I just made a CRC purchase.
A mavic charge front, and a conti trailking rear. I think that will be a good shore combo.
Love the Butcher in SX casing but I find them next to impossible to find anywhere other than Whistler. Anyone know of a shop, preferably in the Fraser Valley, with good stock?
The Mavic Charge is the real deal. It has been a great tire for greasy wet shore riding. Rolls well, tracks well, brakes well.
Amazing quality in the tire. It rolls totally pure, was easy to setup tubeless, and just exudes quality. It made my continental seem really cheap.
My only complaint is I did detect a slight sideways wash, when leaning on the front tire while cornering in the loose. I was probably in-between the side and center knobs.

That's because its made by Michelin, who I believe to have the best rubber compounds in the industry.

Which shop sells these?
I got mine from CRC but I have yet to ride it though.

I got mine from CRC too.
Anyone tried the Roam? Its a harder compound but might be a good pairing? I like a fast rolling rear and use the front for 70% of the braking so not too worried about crazy rear braking traction. It would also be good to have more firm side knobs on the back.
BTW: I setup the Charge on a 35mm rim and am still getting a nice profile. Not too square, not too round.
My choices for rear are Purgatory, Butcher, DHR2 or DHF. I found the HR2 way too drifty up front and wore too quick in the rear… no sale.

who stocks specialized dh tires?
who stocks specialized dh tires?
Got my butcher from Dunbar
Shredding hypothetical gnarr
Running Dual 29er Butchers in Grid casing right now and am loving it.
i have my charge/roam mounted on 35mm derby rims too, zero burping and still no rim damage after tagging the rim hard a bunch of times.
have a roam XL in the rear, same miles as the charge up front.
its good if you like fast/loose rear tires. bit more straight-line/transition traction but less cornering traction than rock razor. the rubber is very firm. wouldn't be a good winter tire.
i'd run a charge in the rear too, i bet it would be awesome.
