my 2012 Stumpjumper came with Avid Elixir 7 SL (OE brake with alloy levers)
within 3 months of light trail use in the UK, the front brake had locked up 'solid'
we could not diagnose it in our workshop, it went back to SRAM's UK service centre and they could not sort if out either despite a rebuild with new MC internals, their techs were completely baffled?
they were good enough to replace my entire brakeset (due to the OE issue which meant a colour specifically made for Specialized and not available aftermarket) with a pair of aftermarket Avid Elixir 7 brakes with carbon levers
since then? they have been good, although the rear brake has a strange trait where once you go through about 1/2 of the usable pad material, it completely loses any stopping power
you can try and 'reset' the timing on the MC, but the brake will not generate stopping power until the pads are replaced with fresh ones
getting kinda pricy….thinking about Shimano in the future but I love the Avid lever geometry and integration with my X-0 gearing on 1 x 10
Shimano's super stubby levers are putting me off?
