Are RockShox rear shocks supposed to have smaller eyelets?

I am trying to fit a used Rock Shock Pearl 3.3 (air) on as a replacement/upgrade for a DHX3 (coil) but the eyelets are too small to fit my mounting hardware. Has anyone else faced this problem? I'm not sure if I need custom mounting hardware for the shock or if I need to punch out the eyelet liners??

Thanks!

Thanks. Do you know how to get this? I was at the LBS today and we looked through the Rock Shocks and Norco (which now has some rock shox stuff) catalog but to no avail…

I was in Canadian Tire the other day and saw that they had some bolts that looked very similar to the Norco bolts you are dealing with. I think they were of sufficient grade as well.

Let me know how the pearl works for you.

I think he is talking about the reducers and not the bolts. I will check today at work and see if I can find anything about them.

The pearl holes are smaller. I chucked the bushings up (on a bolt) then turned them down on my drill press to the proper size for the pearl. Just made this upgrade to my Cove gspot.

A hand drill should work to but would be clumsy.

Thanks Leggatt, James was right I am trying to find the right bushing or sleeve to fit. James if you find out something please let me know.

BossyRossy, were you worried about weakening the eyelet? I was under the same impression of "Kye"- that drilling it out is a bad thing and the best option is to find the right hardware. BTW- how did you like the shock change??

No, the marzocchi eyelets are larger - as is all mounting sleeves and hardware.

No not worried about weakening the eyelets as they are in compression and I only had to take a few thousand off. To bad I did not measure it but I hate to force stuff together!

The bearing area of the the new shock is slightly smaller (bush dia x length) but this has been set by RS. I am suprised that they did not make it easier by adopting the larger size.

No not drilled. I reduced the OD. The shock works good but I have not had it on the trail.

marzocchi's bushings are the same as fox so it uses the same hardware as well.

Didn't get a chance to find out about the reducers it's been pretty busy at work. will see for tomorrow

many thanks James! I am concerned that I would need bushings and hardware specific to the bikes that I ride; an 05 Norco SIX and an older stinky…or find someone who has the machinery to do what Bossyrossy has done.

Well, It seemed good for the two times I rode it. The adjustable platform was cool. I'm sure it is a good peice of equipment. I bought it new (2nd hand) from a guy on the island. Turned out it was defective and was short on stroke (1.5 instead of 2"). I have been waiting 3 months for it to be warranteed
