Are Fork Foam Rings Brand Specific?

Servicing my Ohlins RXF 38m2 I noticed my foam rings are toast. I’m wondering if the foam rings for any 38mm fork will be compatible (Zeb, Fox 38 etc)? Or do I need to find the Ohlins ones? The wiper seals are fine. I assume I can put the foam rings from the Fox 38 or Zeb in there instead but appreciate if anyone can confirm compatibility before I do that, just in case the rings from other brands are a different diameter, density, who knows.

Thanks in advance.

Hopefully somebody has actual experience, but...

Do they look the same? I used all kinds of random looks-close-enough-to-me foam rings in my Lyrik without any problems whatsoever.

Unfortunately I can’t check because I’m all out. I’ll try Suspensionwerx or S4 tomorrow.

Depending on how toasted your current foam rings are, they can often be cleaned and re-used. Soak them in some isopropyl alcohol and squeeze them out between a couple of shop towels. Repeat until they look like new. If they are ripped or so mangled they can't be re-used then then you'll need those new ones.

One time a friend bought a 100 foam rings on aliexpress for a couple bucks. He raved how they were so much cheaper. Turned out they didn‘t hold any liquid. Maybe the material they were made of would have been perfect for tire inserts in that regard.

Apart from that I used Fox 36 foam rings in 35mm Lyriks. Worked. Other way around as well. Installation can be tricky, if they are too loose and get caught in the bushings and rip. But you‘d feel that for sure. I did and had fun to fish all the bits out of oily lowers…

Yeah, either reuse the old ones (I do that often) or stop by the suspension shop. SW should have them in all sizes.

During COVID, I couldn't find Rockshox 38mm foam rings, so I used FOX 38 foam rings in my ZEB without any issues. Now that parts are available again, I'm back to using Rockshox foam rings, but they appear identical to the the FOX ones. Not sure about Ohlins though?????
