Anyone Ride Fat Bikes?
why are there so many stupid standards in the fatbike world? I still can't figure out what kind of cranks or hubs I might need if I were to build up my own fatbike. is there a website that explains it all in simple terms? I read the Surly FAQ but now I'm more confused than ever - maybe they smoked one too many fatty's while they were writing it :confused:
anyone have an opinion on these fatbikes? I found a slightly used one online, as pictured would be only be about $1300 shipped to my door. Bluto, x9 drivetrain, cheapo bar/stem/saddle (would be swapped with some parts from my regular mtb). Seems prtty hard to beat for the price. Everything I've read online gives them thumbs up and any closeup details actually make the welds and finishing touches look pretty nice - still, it's a chinese knock-off frame and I'm not sure if my inner bike-slut would allow that.
other option is to build up a rigid ice-cream-truck with alot of parts scabbed off my mtb for around 2200, or buy the Rocky Blizzard frame/bluto/hub package, scab some parts off my mtb and run that for about $2350. Money isn't a big concern but the Motobecane actually looks pretty nice for the $$$ and not knowing how hard I'll actually end up riding the thing makes me think it might be "good enough".

Trailworker, check out Framed bikes. My wife and I are riding the Minnesota 3.0 with the XLT tire option and Bluto upgrade.
Chromag won't be doing an XL run until the fall so I've got some time before I finalize my decision (plus I want to know the geo before I commit as well). If you wouldn't mind taking a closer look when you get home, I'd appreciate it.
Very delayed response, but I am finally home and have taken a few measurements of the Nice Dreams:
Width across the narrowest part of the chainstays = ~4.75"; loads of room with a 4" Van Helga, would be a tight fit with a 4.8" if it fitted at all. If anyone has a bigger tire lying around I am happy to try it though.

Still haven't pulled the trigger yet. Wednesday looks nice for the versatility, ICT looks like a great ripper, and Nice Dreams has the Chromag factor. Each has it's negatives, but right now I'm leaning towards a Wednesday with a rigid fork for this season (and maybe a Bluto next year). Once the lake freezes over up here (should be soon) I'm looking forward to some shoreline touring.

Aside from the mechanical disks which I eschew (just my personal preference) that looks like a pretty solid bike and good price.
