Why would you want less offset?

I'm now on a standard 150mm 51mm offset DVO on my Smuggler. I do have a 46mm offset Pike 140 that I used both on my old Process and on the Smuggler. I will admit that I liked how the 46mm offset cornered, especially extended to 140mm (originally 130mm). DVO will be offering a low offset upgrade (lowers) for next season. I love the DVO, the damping outweighs the slightly lighter bar feel (over the pike). Pike's in storage wink wink nudge nudge

Less offset = more trail. I am assuming he wants more stability and less twitchiness in the steering of his bike. Its also the flavor of the day to go back to less offset on 29er forks (see SBG from Transition).

150 is pretty common on the Smuggler.  I had it at 140, and just wanted a bit more.  They have a pretty low bb, a quite steep STA, and low stack so they play nice with the longer fork.  With the 51mm offset it's a wee bit light on the front on tight switchbacks, but hardly worth a complaint. Yesterday I noodled up to the top of Middle Earth in Pemby and the geo never even crossed my mind.  Also, I send myself off the same stuff I use to on my bigger bikes, so I just wanted a little bit more jam on my one bike all mountain bike.  It's also fitted with a topaz shock.  Quite a rocking setup:-)

Perhaps because the the frame is a bit short in reach compared to current standards.  With the 46mm offset and a 50mm stem on mine, it was money. But perhaps something lower still in offset would be best matched with a shorter stem...and a longer bike.  I can't wait to try their new one as well.

Well here we are. I'm about to start life on a super slack 29er (64' HA). Initially I'm going to use my 160mm 36 with 51mm offset but now the new 36 and Lyrik are available in shorter offsets which might turn out to be better. Has anyone tried this?

Maybe take a read of this article?

I guess it depends on how and where you ride to some degree. The shorter offset makes for a shorter wheelbase which can help in the handling of that long and slack 29er.  What frame is it?  Sounds like a Sentinel maybe?

Nope.

Been waiting for factory 29er forks to be available with reduced offset.  Should've just ordered one with my frame.

Add MRP and Formula to the list of offerings

I think you can do this yourself by rebuilding your 29er forks with a 27.5 crown / stanchions. I read an article somewhere where they put a 26" 36 crown into a 29er lowers. 31mm offset...

Not sure if you need to do anything custom though, or if it is a straight swap.

edit: the article is linked above........!
