Any idea?

My inclination is my freehub or my front chainring is worn out.

I get in to anything higher than my 4th gear on my cassette and i crank and it just skips. I adjusted my chainline today to a perfect distance (51mm on the Scream). It shifts in to every gear nicely except my 9th (which i just said fuck it, whatever). I lubed up my chain today and all that just regular maitenance sorta stuff.

Yet still in anything above the 4th (And sometime 5th) it skips if I crank on it. It's a real pain in the ass for getting speed for stuff when I gotta pedal like a mad man just to get going.

Specs…
Front Chainring: Shimano Something, 34T Standard (bought beginning of last year)
Cassette: Shimano LX 11/34 (bought in October)
Chain: Shimano LX (edit3 weeks old)

though those might help

Peace out
Cam.

Chainrings gone, cassette is gone, and you need a new chain on top of al the wornness you have installed over the year.

id say it was your bro who suggested getting a new chainring.

can you tell if it skips at the front or the back and what skips?

the fact that it works in the lower cassette cogs sounds like a derailler/cogset issue more than a front ring

if it started skipping AS SOON as you put the new chain on I would suspect the cogset is toast but I should think a cogset would last longer than 9 months

I had probs getting into 9th (this was an XT),the deraillier hanger pivot shaft was binding,I had to take that horseshoe clip off the back of the shaft ,pull it all apart and lube it,[HTML_REMOVED] make sure the spring is ok .You kinda need 3 hands to get it back together but it eventually goes.

also the lower cage pivot was binding and the spring had popped out of the keeper so the idler wheels were not following the cassette close enough in 9th gear .Take the ider wheels [HTML_REMOVED] lower cage apart [HTML_REMOVED] then you get at that shaft with a very small allen screw on the side of the derailler body .Lub[HTML_REMOVED]check spring,a little easier to put back than the pivot bolt above

new chain and old cassette don't mix. you might beable to still use the chain if you get a new cassette. chances are it is skipping in the back. try that, if it doesn't work get a new chainring, you'll need it sooner or later.

replace your Cassette, RIngs, and Chain all at once. sounds like something in the system is worn. as has been said many times, new and old don't mix with drivetrains.
