any giant reign owners (2015)

I think how well it climbs depends on what you are comparing it to. I feel my compromise with the Reign was descending over climbing compared to some of the other bikes I was looking at, but it still climbs well. It climbs far better than the last AM bike I owned but that was a good few years old. It descends just as well if not better.

what can you really say about a bike design that uses some type of suspension lock-out to enable it to climb better and how can it be compared to a design that does not use a lock-out .

any body climb on their Reign without using the suspension lock-outs ? and how would one compare the difference between locked out and not ?

I would use the lockout on fire roads only. With the right sag setup actually quite efficient. The vivid coil i have on now has no lockout, and i thought would suffer the climbs, but iI haven't noticed it really at all. My biggest problem with lockouts forgetting take them off.

well there you go. I'm pretty religious about locking out for my climbs.

I also use my lockout and travel adjust on the fork fairly regularly

my 55 has ta, my pike does not. it is nice feature ya…i miss it on the pike.

Ditto, use travel adjust, on my Trance SX, but don't have a lock out. Will sometimes the the CS on the DB Inline. Usually not more than 1/3 to 1/2 from open. Bikes get better traction with suspension working and ride smoother. I am not anywhere near sprinting on my climbs so a lockout is not that important to me.

A few times that I have tried to dirt jump I crank up the compression or add 5-10psi, other than that I let the suspension work.

Edit: On some of the newer climbing trails (For the Kids, R[HTML_REMOVED]R …) I sometimes find leaving the fork at full travel is easier as you can leave the front tire mostly unweighted and it seems to ride over any obstacles easier.

i lock it all out. in fact i just did for todays ride. i find mine isn't really a 100% lock out and i get quite a bit of traction still.

how much sag do you run ?? i run less than 20% front and rear with my air pressure 35 to 40psi over my max riding weight .

I only really use the propedal feature on my rear shock on long fireroad climbs or perhaps very smooth singletrack. I use the travel adjust on my lyrik up front (older model) to dial it down to 130mm for just about every climbing situation, but my frame was designed around a 130mm fork so that just brings it back to stock handling, while running it at the 160mm setting slacks it out for descending
