I might be a bit late on this but Opus makes aluminum 12", 16" and 20" bikes

12" dash

16" scout

I just built up a 16" scout the other day and it seemed like a pretty good little bike, under $300 CAD if I remember right, frame is 6061 aluminum.

Anyone know how feasable it would be to build up a 20" kids mtb with working forks and discs?

Of course, imma check out this mtbr site…

…any input though?

Gotta order something ASAP here as the B-Day is coming up. For me it's between:

http://www.norco.com/bikes/kids/14-16-inch/lil-missy/

and

http://www.norco.com/bikes/kids/14-16-inch/rainbow-16/

Wife and I are both leaning towards the lil missy, as the rainbow looks like it would be more clunky and harder to use. We can let her pick out her own streamers and bell to pimp it out.

What's the damage for a Pixie 12"? I could see that being a big hit at our house!

just got back from a week on the east coast - took the little man down to the store for an ice cream, can't believe how much he's improved in skill and confidence since i left. and he's stoked to ride - the wife says he's insisted on riding every day since i left. plus he seems to have sprouted up at least an inch, must be all the rain. so with a bday at the end of the month i think its time to go all in on a real bike. don't really care for the looks but i had my heart set on one of these:

but i just saw one of these bad boys:

at the lbs and am having second thoughts. the kid's got a standing promise that his next bike will be pink. the se looks pretty sick, whereas the pit boss looks a bit… awkward? but the little ripper weighs in at over 20 lbs, whereas the 2011 pit boss is a claimed sub 15 lbs (can that be true?) i'm too poor to be a weight weenie - maybe i'll be one of those sad bastards who has to live the dream through his kid

Man if it's not pink he might quit riding forever. Kids are weird like that. I see they don't make a pink version of either. I think you said you might just spray it pink though?

…but i had my heart set on one of these:

check out the specialized hotrock. a good bit cheaper, lighter than the se, and 2" lower bb than both. comes in a pink girls version if need be…

not sure how i missed/ignored the discussion about the hotrock - looks like a contender! just talked to the bike gallery, they've pink ones in stock. so now i have a bit of a dilema

  1. hotrock: pink, 19 lbs, ~$200, low bb
  2. pitboss: black (will have to strip and paint it), 15 lbs, ~$400, high bb

is it worth the color and geo compromise and $200 to drop 5 pounds off the weight of the bike? hmmmmm, methinks not

Maybe save the BMX until he's thinking about doing BMX at the track then? The Pitboss is pretty cool, but the price point is a bit wild. Remember the hotrock 16 you have to import yourself as it's not available in Canada.
