888 for a Norco Six?

I am thinking about getting a ew fork for my '05 Six. I am currently running a Z150 frII on it and would like to get a little more high performance. I am trying to decide between a '06 66 RC2X or an '06 888 RC2X.

The axle to crown length on the 66 is 16mm more than the Z1 and the 888 is 46 more. I don't think the move to the 66 would be noticeable geometry wise but I don't know about the 888?

I ride the shore a lot and I am thinking about getting an '07 Preston for trail riding.

Any comments would be helpful.

Thanks.

i also have a 05 six.I currently run a 05 66vf 150mm I am wanting the 06 66rc2x 170mm. , that would the optimum setup for my style of riding here on the ssc IMO…i dont think a dual crwn really suits this bike.but a 888 wouldnt be that bad.

this frame is def a sweet ride, but I like it for it's smllr sz and lighter weight.makes it quite nimble. if you are thinking triple crwn Id unload that frame and get a shore frame to better match up.

look at an 06 Manitou travis single with TPC+
retail was around $699 when it was first released, so you'll probably find one for a bit cheaper in most shops now. The fork has 6 inches of travel but the quality of the TPC+ damping assembly is top notch and really feels at home on all types of riding.

why don't you go all out and put that super monster on that you were talking about:coo:

… i'd suggest the 66 as well…if you get the 888 then you'll want to launch off stuff that could get you hurt…break a finger or something….

Smart ass… :fu: :)

Ya, the super monsters sounds like a good idea. Island rider or whatever, recommends them I hear.

A new 888, with its shorter axle to crown, would feel awesome on your Six.

Personally I'd get a Travis Triple with 180mm travel. Awesome weight/travel/height ratio.

46mm added to the front will definitely be noticeable. Will it bother you? I dunno. You'll be almost 2 inches higher and 2 degrees slacker in the front. And I guess 2 degrees slacker on the seattube as well, which is sometimes noticeable when climbing.

I'd definitely stay with a 7" fork (or less) for the Norco 6. It would also be just right for a Preston. The Travis' seem nice too, but its the first year of production so I'm not sold on the durability. Also, don't the Travis' have long axle-to-crown heights due to the reverse arch? I dunno about the SC version but the DC is just as tall as the old 888's.

The Totem is looking good but, again, first year production can be sketchy.

Do they make a Preston with a 1.5"? If so, thats the way to go (for a headtube) - no downside really. You either run a 1.5" fork and get the added stiffness or use a standard steerer and put the headset bearings inside the headtube

That is my concern also. The nearly two inches will make a difference with the 888 but the a2c on the 66 is only 16mm different which won't be noticeable and will give almost 7 inches up front.

I guess whatever I get should be about 170mm total travel. Of course I could always get Naz at Marz Canada to reduce the travel on a 888, then the difference between the two would be zero.

my 66rc2x has a bit of clearence issues on my large 04 six.
the top leg vales hit the cables on the underside of the downtube… noticible when maneuvering the bike around hikeabikes and trucks, never on the trail.. pretty much the turning radius of a doublecrown with that effect..
