6 or 7 inches on a hardtail?

i have a .243 and i want to do more trail riding like whistler and kamloops. I have a 4 inch 98 mrT on it right now but i'm hoping to move to something bigger. Can anyone tell me their experiances with having a 6 or 7 inch fork on a hardtail for all around riding? I was thinking a 2001 Super T (6 inches) or a 2002 Boxxer (7 inches). I know a slider would be perfect but i don't want to spend that much money! Thanks!

Hey , I ride my .234 with a Jrt 2 (5"). I take it up to whistler and it does fine. I can still hit the 8' hucks with out full compression. Just be aware of the trany.

if you must have a big fork get six unless your only hucking and racing downhill or you could look into the boxxer race like i have where you can adjust it to six or seven

i got a super t on mine (7 inch) and its good, i don't feel the angles are bad or anything, it feels a bit more like a big bike, but still ahs that hardtail responsiveness.

i have a .243 too and for awhile my normal fork, shiver sc, was out on warrenty so i put my 03 super on.

i really didnt like the way it rode, it was really weird, i think it is partly cause the .243 is so short but i hated the way the front was so tall and abosrbing but the back was harsh. it was way to heavy as well i thought. the reasons i like hardtails is because they are so quick and agile, putting a big fork on the front ruins that, get a full suspenison then.

i wont put more that a five inch travel fork on the front of my bike, even if i was gonna ride whislter, i would just take advanatge of my bikes manuvurablity and find new lines, then deal with the fact that my bike would be a little less stable.

a jr t 2 would be the perfect fork for a whilster hardtail imo, low travel but still really burly and rigid. do u have a mr t dual crown? if so there is like no difference. idk maybe i would consider putting a boxxer race in 6 inch travel setting on there but not more travel than that, buy a dually if u want huge travle, they are a lot nicer all around.

Check out fergs .243 bike. It's gorgeous, and he rips on it.

I think he has a Super T on the front, but I'm not positive. You could PM him and ask about the pros/cons.

And Diggler had a Junior/Super on his .243 bike. Might have been a 6" version.

i jsut bought a new .243 yesterday…and i put my 6 inch 2002 jr.t on it and it is wicked feeling!:thepimp:

I have a Slider on a Stumpjumper right now, and it feels good. It only bobs when I hammer out of the saddle and even then, only like 3/4 of an inch.

I ran a monster on my .243 for a while, it was great for everything other then street/park stuff.. I took it to some trails and it did fine. I would run a 7 inch fork, but run the same size wheels on each end please..

I ride a kona 15"kona stuff with a 7in jr t and it works great. I lower the crowns as much as possible and just put no stackers or anything undermy stem. To keep it low so dont ride huge bars or big rise stem. just keep it low. Definatly get a 7in fork though taht way you can get the new super or jr. I love the way my bike handles with it. It feels good.
