My 30 tooth Race Face Narrow Wide front chain ring on my 1X set up has started to drop chains after only a few months of use. Lots of miles in those 3 months but surprised it didn't last longer.
Does anyone think that a worn chain will cause dropped chains or is it primarily a function of the front chainring condition?
Thanks

How about your derailleur? Are you running a clutch and if so is it functioning correctly?
Also, (as found on the gfs bike) check you haven't bashed your ring and put it out of true if you aren't running a bash.
Clutch on Shadow Plus is fine. I definitely agree and know that the chain doesn't stay on what the clutch is not working.
Small rings used 100% of time wear fast. Steel would be a smarter material for one by chain rings.
Debate? Bikes are made for riding not pushing.
I definitely believe a worn chain could cause it to slip. Try replacing chain, or at least measuring it - cheap.
any bent or frozen links on the chain ?

tighten the derailleur clutch and replace the chain
MRP 1X top guide, silent and does the job. W/N is sort of gimmicky… great when everything is new, or XC style riding. Aluminum expanders seem to wear rather quickly, causing undue chain stretch.

Yes, i have been asking around a lot and it seems the front Al rings are fairly soft in order to make the narrow wide function. Lots of shops have trouble keeping the front rings in stock.
Seems like the front ring is now a wear item like chains….
They also wear faster because they are always being used, rather than splitting the mileage between two chainrings. That said I'd rather a steel n/w ring, the weight savings cant be that high.

the new shimano uses a steel front sprocket
