anyone have time on a maxxis aspen?
(quick search of this thread suggests they don't provide much cornering support in the wet, and may be SUPER FAST)
Yes and yes and yes.

Threw the HRII 29x2.3 3C Maxx Terra EXO TR on the Surface today. Increase in front end traction was alarming, noticeable front end heft to the tire, and I swear my rear end was ahead of the front axle on a few road and climb sections. Mounted on an Arch, took a little to massage the bead onto the rim, but I might jut suck at mounting tires
Funny thing is the HRII came in packaging stating it is an All-Mountain tire, while the HRII 26x2.4 and 26x2.35 DHF are labelled as XC tires.
Purg will be mounted on the rear in 2 months +/- a few weeks weather dependant
Why slag free swag?
ummm, as your doctor i recommend against riding with a scaphoid fracture.
anyone on here ridden the Minion DHF? it would seem a battle of the titans between it and the HD. eventually i'll get one, and i chuckle every time i pick one up in a store they seem so massive and heavy. one big chunk of sticky rubber. on the one hand they look overkill on the other, just inspiring.

I haven't ridden the 2.5 DHF but I had a good 2+ hours on my 2.3 mounted up front on my E29 today on Fromme. For me this is the perfect combination of great traction, reasonable weight and decent width. It has the typical DHF grab on roots and rocks and a decent casing that isn't too light or too heavy.
I'm guessing they'll be available soon.
2.5 dhf is even better than the 26 version. incredible damping, traction forever, very big volume, like a hans dampf 2.35.
HR2 is awesome, wish they made it in 29 x 2.4. really wish that a lot.
I'm also heading in the light as possible direction. Went from Flows to lighter wheels (still trail oriented) and from the 2.4 Ardents to the 2.2 Ikons. The difference in weight/feel has been awesome (I run both tubeless.) I'm now convinced that my bike budget needs to redirect as much funds as possible to even lighter wheels! I like those Beavers but the EXO version is 760grams which likely means closer to 800 about the weight of the Ardents…
The start of our local haunt here (Hartland) is one big climb. The rest is short ups and downs its just too much climbing for the big tires for too little pay offs on short downs.
Ride on,
Michael
so with the clouds and rain making a comeback, starting to think about tires for the fall…
i really want to try an hr2 out front - anyone know where i can pick one up in vancouver or on the shore?
my exo ikon has been a great summer tire but doesn't like mud - what's a good pick out back that balances traction and speed? i've seen people shred nic's out back in a matter of days. opinions seems to vary widely on the purgatory. do i go beaver to keep the branding matched up front and rear, or is that more of a mud tire?

Dual DHF's.

I concur with your face. Plus the DHFs only come in 2.5.
Try out a DHR II 2.3 out back and a grip-tack-ular HRII 2.3 up front. Both are available 3C/EXO/TR :damn:

I've been impressed with the 2.3 Purg out front for the last month but it has been dry. I plan on putting it on the rear and putting a Butcher up front as things get wet here. Look in the Specialized thread for more thoughts on both and the GC in the 29 variety. As things get damp more opinions will come out I'm sure.
Yeah, I plan to ride my GC rear/Purg front combo for as long as possible to see if they do as well in the wet, if not…then a new butcher for the front and move the purg to the rear…it did well last winter.
@tcb and pedalhound - are your purg's control casing or sx? wondering whether a control casing will cut it on a rear tire…

I have run the control casing front and rear. When it was in the rear last year I never had an issue, but cut my sidewall on the front after a month of riding…kinda pissed me off…
