Hey, this is Alex from the vid. Just trying to explain WHY a lot of bikes have morphed into a "similar looking" platform. There are only so many ways to monkey with physics. And at the end of the day, that layout was the lightest, strongest way to build the bike. End of story.

You could do a lot worse than copying a Trance X, it's a wicked bike.

Not so… The concept behind SmoothLink is that the average chain torque line (ACTL) is more parallel to the lower link than other designs. In other words, averaging all gear combos, the chain is more parallel to the lower link, not just in one gear combo.

There is a about a 6 degree difference between 22/34 and 32/11. Which one is the link "more parallel" too again ;)

I get the concept but IMO that's all it really is but I understand that you need a story just like every other manufacturer.

And as I said the bike looks great. Good angles and design details.

I'm guessing that the ACTL is taken over the range of gears you'd ACTUALLY use in a situation where pedal bob (and thus chain line angle) is critical, which is probably half the number of gears that are in your stated gear range.

If someone is worried about pedal bob when mashing in 32/11, they might have bigger things to worry about, like fast-approaching logs, trees, and small animals!

We averaged it out to the most common gear combo. I can't remember exactly what it is? 32/26? 32/24? Based on field experiments, looking at how much time we spent in which gears.
