I remember when 9 speed first came out chains we snapping all over the place.

Is that SDG stuff a late april fools joke or not? That would leave marks that my girlfriend would have serious questions about.

So what has changed in the 9 spd stuff that we no longer are breaking chains?

I can remember everybody being freaked out that the 9 speed chains were gonna break, but i don't ever remember it actually happening? Considering the the plates and pins are the same size as an 8 speed(only the width changed) i fail to see how they would be weaker? wear quicker maybe.

If i miss your E-sarc, then my bad.

The SDG seat is a one off for Mr. Hill, No? I think last year his mechanic glued a tire tread to his seat for a muddy race, so I guess when you win races….companies will do strange shit for you.

Edit, just read that it will go into production….my bad. I guess i should have typed, when your Sam Hill and you win races, people will buy strange shit.

I was racing xc back in the 90's and I remember noting more than normal breaks on the new, narrower XTR 9spd. My pops used to come to all the races when I was jr. and he would go on about "it's that new 9 speed" haha

Numerical data I don't have and I could be out to lunch, but is it fair to say that when companies first introduce something that is pushing the edge of tolerances that additional failures are possible?
