Well the title pretty much says it. I got a 2003 vanilla RC that needs a rebuild… should i bother spending the money getting PUSH to rebuild it? Or would I be better off getting rid of an old part and spending a few hundred extra on something new? The shock doesn't have much riding time on it since 2003 so I'm quite unsure. Opinions????
2003 Vanilla RC.. Rebuild, PUSH, new shock?
i will assume you are a Vancouver local. there is a guy in chilliwack (i think) that does the same thing push does. dont remember the name. im sure someone else here does though
Being an agoraphobic adrenaline junkie would be pretty convenient, because you could get your rush from just going to the store to get some milk instead of having to jump off a mountain or out of an airplane.
they also call me "balloon"

I bet that guy could do it(even though its not on the site)
thanks for the replies. Ive actually found that website on my searches of this forum and e-mailed him asking if he could do anything similar… I just e-mailed him though so I will get back with the reply as soon as i can. It would be nice to have it done locally for sure!
My pushed Vanilla RC was smooth like butta'!
I'd go through them again in a heartbeat.
Im getting excited thinking what my shock could be! But I don't want to side track readers from the real question here… It is a 2003 shock, is it worth getting it pushed as opposed to spending 2-300 more for a new shock that i really can't afford?
Ive got a 2004 pushed valinna rc and it feels like sex, id say its worth it
2005 A-lline upgraded… 1250 OBO!

Paul Fernie (IIRC) at flow components, but I haven't seen him post or heard anything about him in a couple of years. I had a 2003 RC done by him and it was awesome.
Hey Get a RA# from a shop have them send it in.. should cost around 80+ Parts.. right here in Vancouver OGC :)
So Ross, you're saying you guys will give my RC equivilent to what Push does for about 80 bucks plus parts?
If so I'm in.
.
I think the local dude just rebuilds stuff, which might be all you need. Push actually tweaks stuff out and make it better than new. I just had a 2003 Vanilla RC Pushed and am still trying to get my Fox 36RC2 to feel as good as the back end. I'd say get it PUSHed, keep it going and then when the wheels really fall off then think about a new shock. From my limited time on other shocks I really don't see a compelling reason to upgrade to a whole new shock.

The FLow Components guy did the same thing that Push did, he replaced all the internals with custom parts he machined and then added a schrader valve to the RC. Awesome work, and it chirped like a bird when it was moving. I can't find any more info on him now though.

AintNoProphet, one factor left out of the mix is what bike it's going on and what you're using it for. These two items would play into whether or not you'd benefit from some of the newer shocks, or if the RC could get the job done. The RC is still a great shock for a lot of applicaitons. What bike are we talking about?
Thanks,
Darren

it's a 2003 balfa 2step DH. Basically a whistler bike.. a-line, fast jumps, too many brake bumps. I like the way it performed but i found it slightly soft and more bouncy to pedal than it could have been. I have the option to buy a newer 5th element for super cheap, air or coil, with cheap/free service for a long time which sounds nice. Tough decisions!

I would not hesitate to send in a 2003RC to Push. I think I
would like the feel better than a new DHX for braking bumps
etc.
I used them on my previous ride and was VERY satisfied with
the final product.
