Ibis HD3 (160 front, 150 rear) 28.5 pounds
650B Nomad (180 front, 165 rear) 32 pounds
Both 11 spd 30x10-40
For what it's worth, I thought the 10 speed cassette with a OneUp 40 t cog and RAD cage shifted almost as well.

To those of you using Oneup (or similar) add-on 40 tooth cassette rings (that's a mouthfull) what is the shortest cage Shimano derailleur you can use and still have good shifting? I currently have a short cage clutch Zee buts it's pretty much dead and I want to get a 40 tooth and replace my derailleur at the same time. I prefer short cage but would be willing to go at least medium if necessary to make the 40 tooth work. Up front I'm single ring 32 tooth….I know Oneup has a chart on their site but I'd like to hear from actual people using the stuff to see what works. Thanks!

I would recommend medium cage if you want decent shifting. My 2 cents.

If going Shimano, go with a RAD cage for good shifting. I found the shifting on a med cage XTR intolerable without it and ditched the 42t cog. The RAD cage made it work.

I use a Zee on both my bikes with 30t ring and 40t in the back. Pretty much flawless shifting, not worth spending another $60 on the RadR cage in my opinion. Take the time to set it up right with correct limiting, b-tension and chain length and you'll be fine.

Short cage. FR wide ratio version of the Zee.

Knolly Chilcotin 26er 30 x 11-42 one up'd. Shimano xt clutch med cage with the RAD cage on the derailleur.
Good shifting with the clutch on but it is a touch heavy on the thumb. no complaints . Works fantastic

I've run both Zee FR and Saint shortcage 30 X 11-40, not sure about 32t it may be close. You have to get chain length exact and short as possible, remove shock to check full travel chain growth. Also don't over crank the B screw you need maximum wrap around the 11t. Depending on chain growth, with a 32t you may have to block off the 11t with limiter screw or get that 11t lock ring thing.

ok, thanks. I think I may just do an XT or SLX medium cage and not sweat it.

Transition patrol - 11 speed X1 with 28t up front. I decided to get a smaller front ring so as not always using the 42t for climbing, and hopefully getting less wear on the expensive cassette!

27.5-160mm front/140mm rear XTR clutch medium cage, RF DM 30t, 12-36 XT cassette OneUp'd with a 42 and Rad cage for the derailleur.

26" Hardtail-XT shadow clutch medium cage, Wolftooth 30t, 12-36 XT cassette OneUp'd with a 40t and Rad cage for the derailleur.

Medium with Rad cage for the 42 is an absolute must. You can get away without the Rad cage with the 40t. Used a Zee FR derailleur prior to the XT on my hardtail with no Rad cage and a 40t and it worked great.

Shed head!
