Is that a second stem?

Yes. I use an Ortlieb handlebar bag when I commute to work, and it was the cheapest/easiest way I could figure out to get the light under the bag. I have a machined 31.8mm OD piece of aluminum in it. Is it wildly overkill? Absolutely. Does it work? Yep.

Bonus points for using a ZIPP to hold accessories, no faffing around there.

That's thinking outside the box.  Nicely done.

I was finally able to put together my Stooge Scrambler downgravelventure bike on Saturday, and get it out for a couple forest road spins. It's a lot of fun. Much more confidence-inspiring than the Warakin, I'm no longer concerned about not seeing a pothole and going ass over teakettle. I really like the upright position, but I don't know how I feel about the 165mm cranks. I wanted to try them for additional ground clearance and maybe some knee benefits, but it feels like they're straining my quads, right above the knee, more than my usual 175s. Definitely more noticeable than I thought it would be.

I might try going even higher bars when the Discord Chromo Peeper stems come back in stock. If I switch back to 175mm cranks, I'll be lowering my saddle 10mm too, so that'll also make the bars effectively higher. It's still in the hoods-primary range right now. The drops are totally usable, but don't seem as high as they would be on a Tanglefoot.

Drop bar dropper is stupid and fun. I'm using the PRO drop bar dropper remote and it's... ok. It's got two levers, you're supposed to be able to pull from the hoods or push from the drops. Pulling from the hoods with my index finger is no problem, but you need fingers of steel to push from the drops, it's damn hard. I think the lever isn't long enough. I'll try it for a while, and may eventually swap to a Wolf Tooth lever next to the stem, since I can't really use the dropper on the fly from the drops anyways.

Mudhuggers are great. Rock solid, installation was easy, and I got filthy the first ride without 'em.

A very short stem with drop bars and a 67° head angle doesn't feel weird at all. Climbs just fine, you do have to weight the front a bit though. Conversely, it's relatively easy to pop the front end up over rocks/roots/logs.

I'm signed up for a couple races while I'm in Europe - Grinduro Germany, (hopefully) Dead Ends & Dolci/Cake, the North Wales 400. I think this will be my weapon of choice.

^my kind of "gravel."

Congrats on getting the Stooge rolling. My Krampus gets a little twitchy if I spend too much time looking at Stooge porn.

Looks so good, that has got to be the best looking frame around.

I'd be fine with the rest of this thread just being pics of Stooges positioned in various suggestive adventure leans.

Pavement pounder for now. Gots to keep the roadies on their feet (atleast the slower & older ones). They do not like letting a mtb pass em & it's usually good for a competitive pace race

Oh fuck that’s a cool bike.

If it’s a 19” and you ever want to sell it…

I just picked this frame/fork/seatpost/handlebar/stem for $500USD.

Hi all, new to this forum, old to bikes of any sort, stumbled upon this thread while looking for feedback on those chinese carbon bar stem combos.

Slighlty off topic as not a 90's mtb question.

To the OP and all, how's that carbon bar\stem combo been working for you?

Anybody else going this route?

I have 2018 Giant TCX set up as gravel which could use some cockpit refreshing, currently on a heavy stem\bars combo, bars are Ritchey Venturemax comps with ergo bend (not completely sold on this), hoping to squeeze a bit more compliance out of the carbon bar ste thing.

1 year later I see some more options on Ali(gravele style flare, mtb style flare ie more flare, etc) but not a lot of "real world" feedback.

Cheers
