so who here is running a real from sprocket with their 1 x10 or 1 x11 ?? i,m still doin the 2 x10 with a 24/38 and love the 38 on the trails . any one running a 34 or 36 up front with a 11/42 in the rear ??

I run a 11/42 10 speed set up and just swapped from a 30 tooth front ring to a 34.

Initial reports are positive (3 rides). It improved things going downhill and I think I can push this gear for most rides. For road trips to the Chilcotins or 7 summits I will definitely use either a 30 or 32.

If i remember correctly the 34/42 is similar to a 30/36 in terms of gear ratio.

I have found this gear calculator useful when pondering new set ups http://www.ritzelrechner.de/#

cool keep us posted on how it works for you , i just think the a typical 28/30 tooth is gonna get me spinning like a squirrel in a cage unless i,m cogged out , im not a big climber in the sense of epic climbs to the top of mountains from sea level LOL .

Update on the rad cage. Still works really well, I have no issues with it. I've read on the mtbr board that some frames may have issues. See here for more info. The issue is the upper pulley may come in contact with the derailleur. This happens because the rad cage places the pulley further back (towards the parallel arm of the derailleur). The b screw adjustment is CRITICAL! To far back and the derailleur pulley contacts the derailleur in the small cog. To far forward and the pulley hits the 42GC. The b screw adjustment does not have much adjustment range compared to the stock set-up. Hope this helps, it does dramatically improve shifting and is worth it but only if your frame is compatible and so far the only way to tell is if you try it.

Im trying to install a X01 crankset in the Surface but not having luck. Appears to be 1cm space between d/s BB cup and inside of crankarm spider/ring. This far outboard can't be correct, can it?

Using
Chromag Surface
Blackspire TrailX Guide ISCG 05
X01 Crankset
Chromag Direct Ring
GXP BB

Ive tried combos of 2.5mm spacers and nothing with limited, if any success.

What am I doing wrong?

Why slag free swag?

ummm, as your doctor i recommend against riding with a scaphoid fracture.
