Yes, BUT they are adding on $10 for taxes which brings it to $95….
see, that sounds like bike setup/tuning to me. when i was learning bike mechanics, front derailleurs and canti-lever brakes struck me as the two most difficult "regular" tasks to learn. i was building decent wheels before i got those dialed. there's a lot that goes into getting your front derailleur set up properly: height, lateral angle, chain line, limits, compliance with the rings/# teeth you want to jump, cable tension and alignment all have to be correct
my sister bought a bike last spring to commute to work. after a month she started complaining about bad shifting and noise "down there". i told her to take the bike in to the shop - they'd offered her 2 years free labour - which she did, twice. no improvement. i had a look at the bike and every point i listed above had either been botched or ignored… after the bike had been set up "professionally" initially, and "diagnosed and repaired" twice… if that's the general level of lbs competences wrt front derailleurs no wonder so many riders are itching to ditch them!
My front derailleur is correctly adjusted. I would still prefer the shifting into the middle ring to be even faster. Arguably I'm trying to move into the bigger ring a bit early, but often the terrain won't allow it a bit later when the timing might be better. Just moving the chain down the cassette has some appeal.
There's nothing better than an Orangina after cheating death with Digger.
2x10 is crap if you ask me. My current rig came with XT 2x10 and i am yet to switch it up but hate it with a passion.
If you have a front derailleur why would you not run a big ring? To save a few hundred grams? My biggest issue (apart from the compromised top gear) is that when you drop your chain it drops into granny…send the genius that came up with this idea back to the fishing division shimano. At least with triples you generally drop the chain into the middle ring.
I am sure 1 x 11 is the way to go but the cost is insanity right now. These cogs may be the answer to allow you to run a large enough chainring on 1x10 to still have fun on the dh.
Most of us mortals dont run a big ring as there is no need for a 44T on pretty much any trails most of us ride? Not to mention the clearance issues of having a giant front ring to grab all the rocks and logs.
I need a big ring on my xc / am bike. Some of the trails i ride, i get to via the road. Having a big ring is nice.
Clearance? Meh.
Big bike however is 2x
I dont get the bitching about something you dont have to do. if you want to run a granny, do it. front derailleurs are still being made. as are 2x cranks. for some people 1x works just fine. though being able to add a bigger range with out having to shell out for a xx1 set up does have some appeal.
Just a speculative fiction. No cause for alarm.
just people talking about it..dont like it ,don't read it pretty simple really…..
ok then. my take on why 1x is a good thing. getting rid of the front derailleur takes care of a lot of issues with chain line and pivot point. when looking at 29'rs it solves the problem of chain stay length and seat tubes getting in the way of the rear wheel. to me the answer is not going to be more gears but a greater spread between gears. we as mountain bikers just have to shead our roadie-centric ideas gearing. choice is nice. i dont want a bike that caters to the chinner.
like i said. if you want to run a granny you can. but 20 or so posts in a thread about 1x which are by people justifying to them selves why they dont want to run a 1x set up is just kind of dumb.
like you said I dont have to read it, but its there, in a thread about 1x stuff…

well it actually started out with people saying 2x was inferior and i just simply asked the question why do people say 1x as so much superior to 2x or even 3x.
We don't know what our limits are, so to start something with the idea of being limited actually ends up limiting us.

I never met a front derailleur that I liked… always some type of compromise in setting them up. The beauty of this like everything else is that you have a choice based on the terrain you ride and your personal expectations. I like 1 x 10, and have it on all 3 of my bikes now. So clean and simple.

I agree, I wish I had the strength for a single speed, not the biggest fan of rear derailleur either.
One thing I've never been clear on with regards to a 1x setup, doesn't the chainline suffer horribly when in the biggest cogs in the back?

Same as your middle chainring on a 3x setup, so no the chainline is fine.
Im loving my Raceface N/W 30t, with a 11/36 in the back. Zee clutch. Its all working really well and no dropped chains yet.
I'm going to add the granny as a bailout gear because i'm getting old and tire faster.
I like the simplicity and silence of it all, but I do miss the quick gear dump the front D can provide. I don't miss it enough to go back though.
