hey guys , i'm taking a trip to europe and am planning to take my bike to do some touring with ( eurovelo 15 ).
i have made arrangements for a bike box , but after a conversation with a friend i'm re-thinking .
he flies lufthansa , and says he shows up at the airport , pulls the wheels , pedals and turns the bars 90* . they give him a durable plastic bag to put it in and that's it . never had a problem and no damage .
my 20 y/o son , ( who knows everything ) , says to disassemble the bike and put it in a hockey bag . with this option i'm afraid they won't know what is in there and treat it like shit .
air canada website says it should be in a box otherwise it could be refused and/or damaged which obviously they won't be responsible for .
i like the box idea best , but what do i do with it while i'm out on the tour ? my family will be driving along the route but i don't want to pack this empty box around with us .
what say you , worldly travellers ?
