That's like saying "I've ridden in both cities, and Vancouver is no model for Amsterdam's mountain biking future" 🙂
Amsterdam has been suffering from overcrowding over the last decade. That affects all aspects of life, including cycling. More people, more conflicts. Cycling infrastructure being an integral part of urban design, bicycles being the main mode of transportation, and cycling being very safe even without helmets, are still awesome and what I miss most from Amsterdam.

Sounds like the ignored realities of car driving in every city ever.
Amsterdam will be banning all internal combustion vehicles within the city starting 2030.
Symptoms like that...the overcrowding...too many cyclists on bike lanes designed for way less traffic...are starting to happen in quite a few big cities I regularly ride in. Definitely time to start thinking about designing a different infrastructure. And I think Amsterdam might be on to something.

Vancouver will follow in time. Removing the viaducts will be the start. Then you will likely need to be commercial, permitted or electric to enter the downtown core. Fine with me, I don’t need a car downtown. Can actually find it to be a pain.

Nice video, good stuff. It's funny in relation to the opening post ("Amsterdam Is No Model for Vancouver’s Cycling Future") because Dutch cities have had that kind of intersection design figured out for many decades.
Fun fact: the Dutch Cyclists' Union (Fietsersbond) actively campaigns against making helmets mandatory for cyclists and helmets are not even in their safety top 10. Most of the top 10 is related to cyclist-friendly urban planning and traffic rules that have proven to improve safety.
Some good ideas there for sure. The only issues I see are the extra space needed & perhaps problems with snow removal.

I actually kind of agree with this one. I can see speeding down a long hill in the loops and surprising a driver turning across the bike lane, when there was no bike, suddenly one there.

Hmmm, very little real detail to be able to draw any conclusion as the cyclists speed hasn't been reported ie was he going significantly faster than other traffic?
I bet the speed limit for the road isn't 20kmh so the fact that he may have been on the right side of that concrete barrier (ie on the cycle path) shouldn't excuse the truck driver from looking properly before turning...
(Of course, if the rider was doing 70kmh and the road speed limit was only 50kmh, then I'd be inclined to cut the driver some slack...)
