Is it ever worth it? Bike commuting in icy weather...

I find the snow is usually fine but the cold dry days like today the bike lanes can be a nightmare. I usually go down once a year - just hitting an isolated patch of ice. Had that a couple of weeks back coming on to the LGB. Got my foot out so it wasn't too bad. Salt really chews up the drive trains too.

That said, I gave it a miss last week and haven't taken the bike yet this week.

I've been doing this for the last couple of weeks in Squamish partly because my car doors are frozen shut….. I'd describe riding in sometimes around -10 degrees plus wind chill through the valley and holding my dog lead as 'character building', but it's never as bad as I think it's going to be. Just have to go dead slow at times, especially having to control my dog at the same time. 8 inches of rear suspension and Minnions FTW!

I have hit the deck a couple times over the years

This terrifies me! I've commuted in fresh but once it gets icy I chicken out and take the bus. I'd love to get fresh tracks on the LGB, must be awesome! :)
