Hi all,
I'm moving to Lynn Valley in a couple of weeks and was wondering what the cycle commute is like to downtown and if there are any good shortcuts?
Thanks
K
commute from Lynn Valley
through the LSCR up Lillooet Road will save you nasty hill climbs if you take the Second Narrows.

it's the easiest hill route, and quite peaceful in the morning
Depends on where in Lynn Valley. I would suggest:
If yore are in Upper Lynn, (above Lynn Valley Rd and Mt Hwy) cross Lynn Creek at the top of Lynn Valley Road and take Lillooet Rd.
For Lower Lynn/Mtn Hwy you can take sidestreets like Arbourlynne to Inter-Rivers park near the Horse Bridge and then ride down to Mtn Hwy and Main Street (Second Narrows).
For Lower Lynn/Lynn Valley Road (around Trans Canada overpass), take the Cut Trail/Loutet Park behind Sutherland High School to Keith Road [HTML_REMOVED] Brooksbank Ave. Ride Bridgeman Park to Main Street/2nd narrows.
Depending on where downtown you work and where in LV you live, you can also try Lions Gate Bridge for a change of scenery and ride some Stanley Park trails to/from work. MacKay Creek Park is a nice little shortcut to and from lower Lynn Valley Road to LGB. Ride down to Welch St and through the new Squamish Nation bike path and onto the LGB.
Some routes are quicker one way but probably not the other (depending on how steep you like your climbs), depending on where in LV you live. (PS - by "shortcut" I assume you mean "moar offroad").

And sometimes you'll even see, deer and/or bears and/or coyotes and/or bunnies ! I used to use that route commuting home to Lynn Valley. Way better than any other route I found.

Depends on exactly where you are heading. If you are working in the downtown core I would use the LG bridge. Unfortunately, the most direct route from upper Lynn Valley is along LV road, which pretty much sucks any way you look at it. Lots of people continue along East or West Grand Boulevard to 13th / Keith and take that down the hill to Main or Welch. I prefer to turn off on 19th and take the other Grand Boulevard to 23rd. Down 23rd to Larson then hang a left at the bottom of the hill on Fell. Less traffic and an easier hill to climb on the way home. If you are taking the IWM Bridge, you can either take Lilloet Road as recommended above or ride along the East side of Lynn creek, cross the river on the pedestrian bridge, and then push your bike up the stairs to Arbourlynn.
Good luck with your new commute.
any recommendations to get from the north end of 2nd narrows to the fromme gates by riding mostly dirt?
thanks.
Because that's just the way I roll…

Shorter way, less dirt - Main Street, Mtn Hwy to Keith Road either cross the bridge over to eth east side of Lynne Creek, or follow the trails along the west side of Lynn Creek to the Horse Bridge and cross. On the East side of Lynne Creek, go up the stairs to Arbourlynne Drive, take backstreets (closer to Mtn Hwy is less steep, I think) to Mtn Hwy and Lynn Valley Road.
Long way lotsa dirt … up Lilloet Road to LSCR, towards Lynn Headwaters Park and then Depmsey Road to Mth Hwy.
Both routes involve probably about 1000 feet of climbing, just to get from the bridge to the yellow gate.
You will be in pretty good shape if you do either of those rides regularly.
thanks.
