TransLink is seeking public feedback on the 2022 Investment Plan and Transport 2050 10-Year Priorities. They include significantly more investment in cycling than ever before, but they need to hear support from residents to make the plan a reality.
Your input will be reported on and considered by the Mayors’ Council on Regional Transportation and TransLink Board of Directors in the decision-making process to direct major investment decisions.
This public engagement ends on Wednesday May 4, 2022.
Question 10 of the survey invites participants to provide detailed feedback by sharing further comments.
Join HUB's call asking TransLink to front-end most of the cycling funding early in the 10-year plan. Protected bike lanes are quicker and more affordable to build and have minimal operating requirements. Front-ended investments are wise while the larger-scale BRT system is being planned.
HUB Cycling strongly supports TransLink’s plans to rapidly complete up to 75% of the Major Bikeway Network (MBN) with traffic-separated routes. 450km of bike routes will help UnGapTheMap and allow hundreds of thousands of Metro Vancouver residents interested in cycling for transportation to feel safe doing so.
HUB recommends that TransLink increase the share of Major Bikeway Network contributions up to 100% cost share with municipalities as they have more limited funding sources. The MBN has regional transportation significance beyond municipal borders.
The current vision to provide 200 new bike lockers and six new bike parkades for underserved areas is a good step forward. TransLink must also provide on-demand bike lockers at all rapid bus stops and bike parkades at all transit stations. Residents should not have to wonder when and where safe bike storage facilities are when they bike to transit. Bike parking should include charging stations for electric-assist bicycles and micro-mobility.
It’s not just about a safe ride but also what happens at the end of the trip. TransLink should incentivize, support and install publicly accessible cycling end of trip facilities at crucial destinations, including secure parking, showers, lockers, change rooms, and repair areas.

Man, that was a poorly done survey. Question 4 and 5 were accidentally identical, then the rest of were based on a tiny map requiring studying a dotted route.
I completed the CNV survey but, frankly, I'm not sure of the point of any of the options presented.
Now, if they somehow extended it westwards over Mosquito Creek and connect it to Edgemont Boulevard/Edgemont village, then I could see it being useful...
(I fairly regularly ride between LVR/Tempe and the Jones overpass)
Thanks. Yeah, the second post Translink survey likely has a much broader long term, higher $$ impact. I simply copy/pasted Hubs email into comments for Question 10 to echo Hubs request to front load bike infrastructure investments while continuing to “plan” SFU gondolas to the far future.

Yeah, I ride it fairly regularly usually on my way from Dollarton or Second Narrows to pick up the Low Level road. I was very disappointed with the (minimal) cycling "improvements" following all the Hwy1 work.
The whole section between Riverside Dr and Low Level/3rd heading West is horrible and I don't see this being fixed in the short term. (Heading East is a lot nicer though there's still idiots in car turning right across the bike lane without looking properly).
I'm hoping the new Spirit Trail bridge over Lynn Creek helps me when it eventually goes in though I'm not sure what the connections are/will be...

Sometimes I wonder if municipalities do nothing but surveys.
Not bikes specifically, but car parking vs beer drinking with your bike next to you on the patio!

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the District of North Vancouver encouraged businesses to temporarily expand their outdoor patios to assist with social distancing and business recovery. The District regulates outdoor patios for businesses through building and zoning codes, but during the pandemic, these restrictions were not enforced.
With pre-pandemic rules for patio spaces set to return in March 2023, including rules related to ensure patios meet the basic building, fire and safety standards, we are proposing changes to the Zoning Bylaw and some process improvements for outdoor patios to continue to make it simpler for businesses to apply and obtain approval, and to generally allow larger outdoor patios moving forward.
Hell yeah! Haven’t read it yet, but will for sure input. The section of Powell between Wall and Clarke needs improvements.
