I saw a few posts on instagram that look like Big White is building a bike park, guessing it will open next summer. Have they had one in the past, anyone know details (# trails etc)?

Schweet! I was too busy hittin them dank nugs in the 90's to really notice much of anything, but as far as i know this will be a first for them. Hopefully they can make a go of it. It's been a couple years since i've ridden the interior bike parks but Sunpeaks and even Silverstar didn't have anything by way of lineups the few times I was up there. Stoked to do a tour next year though.

I tried to do a tour of the interior bike parks this past summer, but the timelines didn't work out. I definitely wanna do it next season.

Ran into a guy last summer (2015) saying that a local builder was hired to put some trails in. They have been pushing the summer hiking the last couple years and have been putting on events throughout the summer - I've done some riding up there before the hiking started and there is definitely some good terrain for a park.

The two owners, silver star and BW, are family and have had a rift so not surprising to see more direct competition with each other.

Will be a good addition to the area as they have more rock at their disposal than Silver Star does- pretty equidistant for locals to choose between BW or Silverstar. When I lived in Kelowna Silver star was only another 10 minutes or so drive from my place.

Was up there a few weeks ago hiking and was told they are opening the BP for next summer. If I recall correctly there will be 17 trails when they open. We saw a couple during the walk and they look well built. I live at the edge of Kelowna along Hwy 33 and pumped for next season.

Sweet, 17 trails is a pretty solid opening. I've got friends that just moved to Penticton so I'll have to get out that way next summer to check out Big White and Silver Star as it's been a few summers.

As awesome as it is to have another bikepark option in the province… is there really enough traffic around that region to justify a 3rd bikepark? I've only ever ridden Sun Peaks before - I had a great time but there was no one there (in the bike park or in the village). There's no way that place could have been making any money from what I was seeing… which is a shame since the park itself was definitely worth travelling to.

Anyone have any insight on this?

Resorts gotta be thinking of ways to get people who own homes up there (or those who don't) to spend time year-round, especially with the whole climate change thing. I agree that it might be overkill, but at the same time as a consumer it's great to have choices.

This trip to Kelowna was definately an undertaking - Liam and I had been planning this project for 24 hours. We worked really hard to pull out all the stops in this video. We had slo-mo goggle shots; time lapses; pedal flips; outrageous product shots; unloading and loading the bike; walking through the field with your hand in wheat. At the end of the day this trip was all about just getting out and riding with all my friends.

resorts make the $ from real estate… easier to sell if they are a year round resort.

Ya a big thing is the year round activity up there. They have been talking about golf and casino for years - I just don't see the altitude helping that out as the snow sticks around for a while.

The real estate market bombed up there a few years back and really hasn't recovered because of oversupply. Fun fact, it's difficult to get a standard mortgage up there for property. Usually have to go other means (low ratio, borrow against home).

Anyone check Big White out yet? Tempted to make a trip over to do one day there and one at Silverstar. I know there aren't many trails this year at BW but hitting a minty fresh bike park sounds fun.
