Stephen Matthews has laid down a little primer to help would-be filming and editing stars pare it down to the gold.
Ten Edit Commandments - What to Omit
11 Dirt jumping.
12 - loading/unloading bikes from a truck
:12 "Making coffee" shots. No need to see you waking up and getting dressed to go riding. OMG is this the Truman Show? Does he know he's being filmed in his bedroom?!!!?
standing with bike staring into sunset shots….
NO Dubstep. Dubstep and the moving image were never meant to be mated with one another. It's like trying to make Truckosaurus by mating an iguana with a Honda Civic.
A 2 minute video with half of that sponsor's credits and slow motion push-bike-up to trail head sequence. Almost every time….
edit…'Epic' push-up to trailhead in the early morning hours.
I agree with the other Guest about the negative attitudes.
Anthill/Collective movies regularily break commandments 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4 and 2. But it works.
Art is art. I'm tired of people telling me what they hate.
For real though, dubstep does really suck.
// What's Good // F U N E R A L // Ultramontane // DEEP SIX //
I do see these as positive…in a way, lets hope that these articles push people into putting better content out there…I agree it could be done in a less negative way, and I hope that this does not scare aspiring video makers into not making videos…but I can see what nsmb is trying to do.
As for the rules here…I would ad dirtjumping to this list…in moderation, it's not bad, put in a little clip here or there and please mix up the tricks a bit.
If a song has been used in 25 different edits already go and find a different bloody song.
What's up with all the hating. 2 articles about "what I hate about the free content you proudly uploaded" Not a fan of the negative outlook. Do positive suggestions and how to if you want to change the look of uploads.
this is the internet.
constructive criticism is nearly extinct, and should not be expected
I for one am done with people hating on people for hating on those criticizing people for hating on free content.
I think what these articles are crying for is originality. Do your own thing rather than trying to emulate Anthill or some other producer. Some of these elements did work for Anthill/Collective but once everyone emulates them they won't work for Anthill again and they will move on.
13 Don't take yourself too seriously. Have some fun with it.
14. Pushing your bike up to the trail head. Oh but your too out of shape to pedal to the top, so sad:(
Wish I didn't donate my Go-Pro to the Mtns last year, or else I'd go film something to make the internet explode.
Why slag free swag?
ummm, as your doctor i recommend against riding with a scaphoid fracture.
