Interesting to see Specialized sticking with their suspension program, and also expanding on their in-house components. The proprietary front and rear suspension from last year didn't receive glowing reviews, and consumers expect component-specific name brands on high end bikes (i.e. Fox suspension, Thomson stem, DT Swiss wheelset, etc.).
Their decision to produce more components in house is very Bontrager-esque, although this isn't the first time Specialized has tried its hands at branding their own componentry. I remember when Specialized made the Strong Arm cranks, and I quite liked them. For whatever reason, I think they stopped making them in the early millenium. Their Lo-Pro pedals are also quite popular, and they've been producing a solid lineup of tires for many years.
While the components bearing the big 'S' may be well designed, I don't think that they'll be able to compete with the component specific companies already out there. Take a look at Cannondale, Trek/Gary Fisher and Devinci. Eacy company has branded some of their own componentry (i.e. Lefty fork, Coda brakes, Bontrager components, Daredevil components etc.), but I would hardly consider these parts as selling points for their bikes.

It's one thing when a new product is eased into the market by a reputable component company. Most of the time, first year products are OEM spec'd by only a couple of bike manufacturers. The majority of first year products are bought aftermarket by willing consumers. It's another thing when a component from a company with no track record in said component, is forced upon consumers. Like most consumers, I like having the choice to be a guinea pig or not.

For a woman's perspective on the whole thing, check out the write-up on the 2006 Norco Six.
May be some interesting comments there for you and your wife.
I was dating a girl last summer who wanted that bike because of that article. She ended up with a Specialized Enduro Elite, and this article helped things a lot: http://www.nsmb.com/gear/enduro_01_06.php
She's riding the Bike Park and the other Whistler trails on it this summer, and is fully stoked. While she doesn't know the difference between the DHX Air she's got and a Vanilla RC, it doesn't matter. The bike fits her well, and she's enjoying getting into DH. She's little, and the bike is a Small.
She liked the Six more at the onset because it was black. Women! ;)
im loving the New Sx trail, and yes hopefully they make a full build kit option of the regular Sx, that would be sweet.
any idea when I'll be able to buy one of these…
I'm buying a SX trail II in a week or two if I can find one, or maybe if I have to a demo 7 I

good luck man…the new ones wont be out until next spring, and you may have a hard time getting your hands on an SX or Demo at this point in the season. I'm pretty sure specialized has little or no stock left on the big bikes.

He speaks the truth,

Only bikes that are left in those models, are what u can find at shops.
